before the fridge got the insulation overcoat it missed the fire ex, now it rubs but i think i can rotate the fire ex a little and all will be well again, either that or i will move it to the other side

Hi all, looking at getting a set of titan ute drawers for my ML. Has anyone fitted these before? They're 1300 long and based on my measurement this arvo it seems they might be sbout 5mm too long. Hoping to get some input from someone who has already tried.

Hi all,

I'm looking into making a set of drawers for the back out of 17mm ply.

I was thinking of using 17mm ply for strength as well as the fact that I can pocket hole join all the pieces. I was a bit worried about 12mm ply not being strong enough and that it may blow out when glueing and screwing and may require aluminium angle to strengthen the joins.

My concern is that I have made a CAD model of the drawers and worked out that the whole set up will weigh approx 90kg (not including runners). There will also be a plywood box behind the drawers for a dual battery system.

Is 90kg too much?

Once it has runners it will probably be 100kg plus a ~15kg box and a heavy 105ah AGM battery.

What say all of you?

I'd like to attach an image of the CAD design but don't now how to post images on here, if someone could help.

Weights of other ply:

12mm = 62kg
15mm = 79kg
17mm = 90kg

90kgs is nothing. It's like having an adult male in the tray. 12mm is more than strong enough. Unless you're going to stick a weights set on it. Also the standard suspension is designed to take 150kgs without flinching. That little weight won't change your fuel economy drastically. You might use an extra 300ml per 100kms.

Thanks mate, I was just a bit concerned given that I can't afford a suspension upgrade at the moment and the car already has a bullbar and canopy. Once the drawers are in and the battery box and battery I would put the weight in the back around 120-130kgs plus the canopy.

I'm only concerned as this is my daily drive and don't want to stuff it up but at the same time could do with the organised storage rather than everything sliding around int he back.

Top is 12mm ply. Had a 95kg VVVF drive sitting on the top of the draws the other day. Great test of strength

Thanks ag9111, what thickness ply did you make the draw out of and did you simply glue and screw it together or are the lions reinforced with something.

Draw sides are 12mm, base is 15mm, Front is 17mm. All leftovers
At the moment the draw is only screwed together but it lasted a 2500km road trip to My Gambier and back.
I also use it daily to carry work tools and equipment.
I will be pulling it out to glue and screw soon. All joints are simple butt joints with no reinforcing .

Made a set the other day with a mate for his Amarok (he's a chippie)... All 15mm ply, glued, pinned and screwed... Tough as nails... I can stand in a drawer at full extension no worries, and I weigh mid-80kgs...

Pocket screws are unnessary, and probably not the correct application, as they don't give you as much strength as a 2 1/2 screw pre-drilled and screwed through the face...

Saw something on facebook about 4wdsuperstore being very slow to deliver. They wait until they sell a certain number of units before ordering from China..if it's in stock you might be lucky, otherwise there are people still waiting a couple of months on.

Has anyone installed a draw system on a tub liner? Or would you recommend removing the tub liner?
I have a canopy installed so I don't really want to have to remove it to remove the tub liner.

You can remove a tub liner without removing the canopy. Unless you have the over rail design I guess.

My plan is to cut the tub liner for the draws to fit in the tub properly, so the tub liner is still there to protect the tub from other stuff that I might put in there.

100% true here thats why they never have delivery dates advertised I ordered a Thumper off there Great compressor btw and it took 2 months to get to my door when I asked the guy over the phone he said the order has not be fulfilled yet.

So before you buy anything off them call up and ask if its in stock before hand.

Just gtot my Titan ute draws $500.00 delivered, look to be good quality, some sharp edges where meta has been bent or press cut, but only where you wont see it or touch it after its fitted.
Any ideas on fitting as fitting indtructions are for a prado, i guess its position and drill.

Just installed mine very happy,
when installing and yes all those allen head bolts need to come out. move the bottom two brackets toward the centre a bit so you can miss the brace on top and get the drill in straight.
remove spare tyre get under and measure the distance from the front of the tub past the tub brace the do the same for the rear go up top and position draws measure same distances to holes in draws the drill and bolt don't forget the sikaflex in and around the hole you drill
I left the mitsi tub liner in and put draws ontop.

Oh and the fridge slide lock is a push the button on the bottom thing took me a while to work it out LOL
