Stiddy,

Awesome build thread Mate... certainly has got amusing of late :? Thanks to the mods for the clean up.

Firstly, it was really nice to hang out with you and Emily at Tuff Truck a few weeks ago... always nice to put a face to a name. The weather held out pretty well, and we all had a great weekend... I had fears it was going to chuck it down with rain all weekend and be a miserable, soggy affair.

Thanks for coming down and helping out, and being part of our crew. We really enjoying getting our customers down to showcase their vehicles and see the more extreme side of wheeling on show on the tracks at TT each year. It's nice to share a few beers down at the mud run each night, and there is nothing like the smell of bacon in the morning to cure the ills of the previous night. You are guys are welcome anytime... I think next year your truck might look a bit different perhaps... certainly not as pristine or shiny! It looks to have taken a fair beating since in the past couple of weeks, I wonder what it looks like after the antics of the Easter weekend.

In regards to your build... well it has been a whirlwind... certainly not messing about getting this Triton of yours built and out there hitting the tracks.
While you may not have a lot of experience in 4WDS... you've been around plenty of built cars in your time and a lot of that mechanical aptitude and sympathy transfers over... which is why I think you're hitting well above your weight in terms of the trails you are driving and "risk tolerance" vs years in 4WD's.

It's nice to see another one of our Rekon fitted IFS trucks getting out there and embarrassing solid axle vehicles and leading the way on trips.
Wheel travel is a wonderful thing... especially independent wheel travel.

Tell Emily she is mighty impressive on the wheel... great natural aptitude and it's really cool to see you guys out there having a ball with your mates.

Any action this weekend?

Cheers,
Matty

Haha, yeah mate was good.

Thanks for everything you've done mate, really appreciate it! The keys are still here waiting for you to take it and add more of the Monster Rides kit.

The body itself is still in pretty good nick. Its just the tub thats copped a bit of damage, but im not concerned about it. Its easy enough to put another tub on or build a custom tray for it. Aside from that the only other damage is a scuff mark on the flare, but they will be changed anyway I think.
Will give the body a good buff and it will look like new again, theres only a few faint scratches and no dents on it. I'll make sure its clean and pretty for the shows and well for my own good lol.

The mud run was the highlight for sure, oh and that chocolate rum :D wow.
Still getting comments and people talking to me about the Triton everywhere I take it. Its funny when they see the km/s on it and the work done to it and where im taking a brand new car.
IFS was seen to be more of a touring rig more so than a proper off road driver, but after driving it and experiencing it, as far as most of the tracks we will have a go at it, its definately capable while still being comfortable.
As far as hitting above my weight, I think its mainly common sence for most of it, im out with very experienced drivers aswell. I trust them, I trust myself, I trust my car and for me I just run with my gut feeling.

I will also throw this out there, the Monster Rides Kit is amazing. All I can offer is my honest opinion on it. I wont rubbish any other brand, because I've never had anything else. BUT for me, my type of driving, what makes sence in my head, I've chosen what I personally think is the best suspension for the triton and can honestly say im glad I did.
Not only because of the suspension itself, but the rest that comes with it. The support, the friendships, the development and pushing for more and better things for these cars.

Emily is a good driver, shes been around hotted up cars and not scared to get in and have a go, you look at her and think princess but shes not scared to get dirt under her nails.
Her only issue was 'I dont want to break your car' so she takes it really easy, too easy. She was known as 500rpm girl, which is why I got a little frustrated when it kept stalling because when it stalled a couple of times it put her in a bad position. Video's dont show how steep some of it was. But she got there in the end and showed just how easy these cars are to drive and how capable they actually are.

At the end of the day, I bought this car to have some fun. The mrs loved the idea of getting out of Syd and just getting away camping. The mates were bugging me to get a 4x4 for years, so it happened. Now I have one, im kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

This weekend there was no wheeling, just towed the boat up to Windamere Dam for a weekend of drinking and fishing. Wasn't even really that much fishing lol.

As far as towing is concerned with these, they tow well once your moving. But a hill start with 2 ton behind you isn't its strong point and hills you need a bit of a run up lol, be in the right gear and keep it on song. Towing with 35's should be interesting lol. Wheres Tony? going to need that boost controller or chip lol.

Cheers,
Mat

Triton on 35's :o 8-) 8-)

You'll definitely need some mechanical assistance there with HP I'm thinking if you are towing a bit. I would be carrying CV's as well

Could this end up the most off road optioned Triton out there? 8-)

With 35's you could maybe even give six stages a crack rather than the tree root track people told you was six stages ;)
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

Will have to wait for Matty to work his magic on it before I have ago at getting 35s on there. Would like to do it without a body lift if possible.
Doubt it will be the most optioned but will be built well I think.. I've got an ever growing list of things I want lol. I'm trying to tick them off reasonably quick but work limits what I can do and when. At the moment my priority lies with the tub and which way I'm going to go with it. I got a message from xrox saying they are also doing tub protection for the triton due to be released soon so may wait for that. But I'm currently researching winches and roof racks aswell. Things I don't need to be home for or need the car in the shop for. Items can just be delivered and I can fit up when I get time.

The videos aren't tree root. That was a muddy boggy track that snaked around the river and had a river crossing in it.
Stage 1 was part of the tree root loop we did on the way to camp.
The vids are of dustys, some stages and some of monkey gum. With still more vids coming. Dustys and monkey gum are just fun tracks. Daniels point road while still fun was harder and more technical. If you can do monkey gum and dustys.. You can do 5 of the 6 stages it's no harder.

I'm happy to go again with triton guys soon. But would prefer a front locker before that happens.

They are what six stages are all about and still we haven't seen any pics or vids from you doing these tracks.

I don't want another slinging match and commend you with your build so far ;) and applaud you getting a little advancement with products from manufactures re different products.

Keep it up and good luck :)

Like I said mate. The vids are coming. It's out of my hands I thought they would have it all up by now but it's not even on Facebook yet lol..

I'm not after any crap or arguments , I'm not after a pissing contest just trying to build a car and have some fun..

I do thank you for the nice comments and motivation to try and build a nice rig and keep my wallet open lol!!

With travel for work and stupid shifts I do it's hard to do everything I want when I want! Plus I got the "that's enough for now" from the finance minister but she still signs for the goods when I'm away haha..

Noticed your not far from me either.. Can have a BBQ, beers and go for a play around rivo or Menai or something... Prob not in that order but you get the idea.

Would be good to get some locals with tritons for a meet n greet.

Cheers,
Mat

Small update..

The rig is going to the smash repairer tomorrow who is replacing the
tub for a new one. Until I sort out a custom one.

I bought an MCC rear jack bar.. I figure they are already ugly so it won't matter when I take a grinder to it lol.. Modify it for the better I hope. Superior Engineering sell and freight it to me cheaper than buying it from an MCC rep in Sydney can sell it for pick up!!

I bought the newest and greatest Rhino track mount roof rack basket.. $1300. It's a joke for a roof rack that realistically is for looks to hold lights and an awning.. (In my case anyway.. Won't actually have anything on it lol)

I had an eBay spending spree and bought projector hid headlights. Black grill. 3D floor mats. Neoprene triton seat covers. Uni filter. Black bonnet protector and black windshields..

Stopped at 4wdsupplies Smithfield and bought a domin8or winch.. It's got colourful rope :)

Annnd last but not least.. The car has to go back to ARB to sus out why the compressor keeps kicking in for the rear locker.. While it's there they are fitting the front air locker.

So the next 2(1 week smash repair. 1 week ARB) weeks without a car while parts arrive should be fun.

Oh and the CV situation.. Just sorting out the outer cv side of it now.. So far $3600 into these things..
Cheers

That's day 1...

Finally they put 'some' footage up!!!!!...!!

That's NOT 5 of the 6 stages.. Still no go-pro footage either.
but I'm told it's being edited like this vid had been!(this took too long)

Like I said out of my hands. Wasted here but doing it anyway.

I don't want to look like a dick saying it without proving it.. Like I said its out of my hands. I can only show what my mates put up..

All I can do is apologise for a stupid lengthy delay.. I wanna see the footage as much as you guys/girls..

Yeah tub is all sorted. No dents and scratches anymore.
MCC rear bar is on. It's kinda growing on me. Still ugly and needs a grinder taken to it.

I took the roof rack back. Going a slightly different approach. Don't want a rack on the roof. Rather above the tub.

Still haven't put the tigerz winch on. I'm umming and arring about it.. Well because it's cheap. May end up taking it back and getting a higher quality unit like a VRS or Warn. The warn zeon is looking pretty nice.

Monster rides 75mm extended shackles are on the way. Then will crank the front up. Hoping 650-660 hub to guard at the rear. And the front who knows maybe 630? Taking bump stops out. Need even longer brake lines now.

Also bought the flares of motoz because it's already done. Will prob on sell my ones that I already have.

Still no vids as yet. They are over it. It's going to be faster to drive down with my own camera and take my own vids. But they wanna hit up barrington tops next. I might still go and do yalwal again. It's a fun area.

ARB have stuffed around again so my car still hasn't been in to have the rear locker sorted and front installed. Annoying.

Sorry for not much progress on the triton. Been away on work and playing with the xr5 focus(New exhaust, hybrid turbo, forge actuator, bigger boost pipes, new re-map - still only at 350hp and I want 400) and our race car (new coilovers, custom brakes, body/chassis bracing)

Oh and I ordered this http://www.diffbreathers.com.au/comp-diff-breather.html
6 tube diff breather kit.
the way I see it -

1. rear diff
2. front diff
3. gearbox
4. transfer
5. ARB compressor(because its mounted in a stupid spot in the engine bay with the filter down low)
6. Winch

Anyway, will have some more pics up of stuff soon. When I get time.

Triton! Playing on stockton.

she wanted a ring so I got her a billet blow off valve lol!!

AND the racecar. Mazda Familia 1.8 turbo, AWD. bit of fun.

There you have it, some of my other toys that keep me from modding the triton. Add in the skyline(which is about to go another rebuild) and the boat, and im suprised i've done anything to the Triton.

Extended shackles are illegal and 630 at the front is just asking for trouble, especially with the bump stops removed. Those oversized wheel arch moulds are going to need some big tyres to fill them. How are you going to achieve that? Negative offset or spacers? Both, of course, illegal and likely to put excessive loads on suspension and hubs while the spacers are just plain dangerous.

It's your truck, mate, and you do what you like but what you seem to be building here is not anything that will have any value for reliability or even off road ability, let alone any kind of half decent ride or handling on road with the front suspension at full droop all the time. Poseur value only IMHO.

I like the sound of it, will definitely look tough.. May be illegal.. But we don't have to pay the bills lol...

Yeah I know. And agree with most of that lol.

Shackles illegal I know but gets me the height in the rear I want.

Front is going up more for show until monster rides does the diff drop on it. I can't see it going off road between now and then. So it's just for a 'big' look and play around. Can always bring it down if it's no good. But I've also made spacers so I've got extra uca clearance. Cvs probably be a problem but I'm addressing that issue with custom ones.

I've already got 0 offset rims but only 33s and 285 wide so going to a 35inch tyre and 305 wide should hopefully fill the guards. Don't want spacers. Maybe swap to a -12 offset rim later if they don't sit right.

I figure a wider truck is better off-road but there is a limit.
Just trying different things. If it works awesome. If not and something breaks it's only parts and I will fix it.

Let's not start the illegal debate again. I think were all tarred with that brush. EGR disable anyone...

A 16x8 0 offset rim shod with a 265/75 x 16 filled out the flares when I trial fitted them with two tec screws to get an idea before I had them prepped and painted.

I feel a moderator should show restraint in passing negative comment on how someone chooses to build there vehicle.

If the question was posted "What are people's thoughts of these parts?" Then sure post your opinion. But to just flame for the sake of it in someone's own build thread is just poor darts.
