peterdeg's glx-r

Postby peterdeg on Wed Jul 09, 2014 5:19 pm

Someone asked if I had a build thread. I realised that I had enough for a thread but I'd been generally been saying what I'd done in the "what did you do" thread.

So thanks to SEARCH, here's been my adventures for the last couple of years.

Nov 2011 Picked up my GLX-R, it's a lease but had long range tank, snorkel, dual battery, rear protection bars, polyairs, tyre pressure monitoring, redarc brake controller and GME radio bundled in

Second battery shoe-horned in.

And you thought the arse on yours hung low!

I only had polyairs installed as I had them on the Pajero I used to have and found them incredibly useful. I never used them on the Triton, to the point that I ignored them, they deflated and the hose connectors broke off.

Inawise 6 sensor TPMS, lets me monitor the trailer too.

Redarc controller, all that's visible is the control knob. It's positioned right at my left knee so I can manually activate the brakes without letting go of the wheel.

GME TX3540. Again, all that's visible is the handpiece.

My wife actually read 'the Christmas list' this year and got me a MultiView Monitor from http://stores.ebay.com.au/loudroomcreations.

I never mentioned she also got me a rubber mat to go in the back.

The Philips +100's have been in for a year now. I didn't see any real difference between them and the Narva +120s. Unlike the Narvas, I don't drive around with the headlights on all the time, so I hope they'll last a little while yet. Touch wood.

Got sick of the tonneau lid opening up fully whenever I hit a bump while a long load was in the back, so put in a couple of hooks so I can tie it down. Just coat hooks from the big green shed bolted on with a 6mm bolt and a spring washer.

I didn't like how the hook was pulling when there was a load on it, so I re-bolted it through a metal strap to spread the load.

Santa was nice and dropped of a set of Muputrax. I must have been nice this year.

I love simple, dual-purpose gadgets. They'll probably be used mostly as table & seat but it's nice knowing the recovery kit has been increased.

New shoes a couple of weeks ago. Maxxis AT-980's 265/65 R17. Much better look with raised suspension.
Tried to claim them under the lease but too close to my termination date so I had to fork out up front.

$1220 for 5 fitted.

Installed my "poor man's scanguage" last week
I already had the bluetooth obdii adapter and a licence for Torque.
Tidying up my desk, I found a small unused android phone, a piece of perspex angle (from a photo frame) and a roll of double sided tape.

Job done (though I do need to tidy up the power cable and the gps reading is sh*t, we're only 20m here)

The cheapy rear view camera I had started to fail last Easter. Looks like it didn't like the corrugated muddy roads, so I finally got around to buying a replacement.
The old one was positioned at the number plate, not the best perspective, so I thought this time I'd mount it on the sports bar.
Then I got to thinking (dangerous) "hmm, if I'm going to be mounting a camera, what else can I do?"

Five half days over the last three weekends to get it to this point.
I'm not interested in warning the person directly behind me that I'm stopping. I'm more interested in warning the cars behind them!
The little spotlights aren't fully wired in yet, bodgy connection using an accessory socket in the rear for the moment. It'll do for next weekend though.

A 'quick' on today, only took 3 hours.
Mounted a new FM antenna on the front bar. Was sick of forgetting to put the standard antenna down and hooking it on the garage as I backed in.

"AXIS AM/FM HELICAL ANTENNA KIT .9m - AM/FM Black Superwhip Kit - Complete Antenn" http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181200479407

That and DIY radio removal tools ie. 4 lengths of fencing wire.

No tangled cables and minimal blood this time.
Instant improvement .

Admittedly, the old antenna was never extended very far. Just enough to (usually) fit into the garage.
Now I don't have to think about it.

Wowee you must have had some cash to burn, I saw those lights in the shop and almost fell over at the price but they look trick.

Tjm winch too?
Reminds me, the plastic cover on top of my bullbar (same as yours) got blown off when I went through a big mud hole.

I wanted driving lights and a light bar. Once I twigged that real estate up front is limited and that buying both wouldn't be much less than the Lightforces alone, I thought it was worth it. Throw in the special offer of the wiring loom being included and being locally manufactured (and yes, some extra cash), I went for it.

Yep. TJM winch.
