Great build thread Dunga - the canopy is great. A couple of questions ;

How have you attached it to the tub ?
What would you say the load rating on the canopy roof would be ? Would you have a spare up top for extened touring on dirt ?
I assume that your canopy is a permenant attachement.

I am working on a similar design and have some rough designs with measurements. I would really like it to be reasonably easy to attach & remove via the factory tie down points in the tub and the and the crush bar, so i can have the best of both worlds, a ute to put stuff in and a secure/weather/dust proofish space when touring - its a thought /design in progress.

Full credit to you and your sheetie mate - its a top job you have both done. :mrgreen:

Cheers,

DB

Cheers DB,i couldn't put a load rating on it exacty,but I would put 150kg up there without a worry.
My base frame is 40mm angle along the sides and the front sheet goes behind the front of the tub about 25mm I then bent and welded a 40mm RHS along the front sheet so it sits on the tub aswell, its all held down with 6 button tech screws along the top under the side doors and 2 into the angle at the back,its easy to take off if I want,oh and I have 6mm stick on foam right the way around which makes it leak proof,been in some pretty bad weather and no water ingress,but im yet to see how it goes with dust,i have a Muller vent to fit into the roof at some stage.
Yeah we had our fair share of headaches but got there in the end,the main prob was how much the ally moves and twists when we welded,it actually pulled my doors oval when we welded the mesh in,one to be careful of, and I have a couple of woops in the roof which cant be helped unless you use rivets

Looks good.
Only suggestion would be to mount the lights so they hang under the top of the cage, instead of sitting on top (flip them where they currently are)
Then when you load stuff up, you cant smack them - speaking from experience here.
Will also give you better clearance for low laying branches if you have the rack on and gear unloaded.

Yeah I will be mounting them straight to the roof rack bar eventually when I make a bracket to suit,I will be pulling the basket off after I get home from the high country and Fraser Island,my lads are right into the surf club so the ski and board mounts will be going on,that's why I made wiring harness with quick disconnects

Hi Dunga,

Was there two weeks ago and saw a mate lose his plastic and we picked up another piece from an unknown Triton a bit later. Both on the Birrabeen track. You are not alone. 8-)
