I'm not after the tow bar... Just the step to go Above the tow bar I have. Just wondering what is involved in installing the step.. Looks like it just bolts onto the ends of the tow bar mounts.

Don't know if they Are the same but I have an MN and at purchase I ordered with a tow bar and rear step they couldn't fit the rear step at delivery but did fit the tow bar and said they would fit the step at first service, come the first service they removed the standard tow bar and replaced it with one that goes under the step the two bars were completely different the one with the step has very large mounting plate on the side to clear the step. If I had the chance to swap back I would as the step is useless only time you need to use it is when the tailgate is down but the tailgate is in the road and when the gate is up well you can stand on the tow ball rather than the step, with the lower tow bar it tends to scrap/hook up on sharp creek crossings or if you have to drop down over a washaway.

No, Witty, the step mounts to special brackets on the GLX-R tow bar. If you don't have the GLX-R towbar, as should be the case if you have a VR, then some modifications will be necessary so that you can attach the step brackets to the towbar. This is why Tex gave you the link, because you should have the same towbar as Greedy changed his to. Check the link. All will become clear.

Scale, OP has an ML VR so the towbar is different (no extensions), but you are right, the GLX-R is a plough. Luckily, I don't think he has one.

Rear step compatibility

Postby tricky151 on Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:54 pm

Hey gents,

I have my 2013 MN GLX and wanted to add a rear step (mainly to house some rear parking sensors) I was looking for a second hand rear step off what im guessing will probably be a GLX-R that is unwanted.

I have a factory tow bar fitted and my main query is about the step fitting on my GLX. Has anyone had experience with fitting a rear step to a GLX?

cheers, Tristan

Tristan, I've merged your new thread with another one which asks exactly the same question. I've also changed the title of the thread to help others find this information in the future. I may merge the two of them into another covering the same subject, at some time in the future.

See the link to Greedy's thread, above, for details on what can be done.

This topic has been covered many times and we really don't need yet another thread asking the same thing.

Please use the Search function before you start a new thread. Chances are that the answer is here.

Didn't want to start another thread so though I'd ask in here. Does the ml step bolt to the same part of the chassis as an mn step? Meaning if I buy an aftermarket rear bar with side protection to suit an ml and fit it to my mn, will it just sit further under tray and still protect the whole side bit or will it sit where the normal mn step sits causing the side protection to be too short?

Hope that makes sense.

I reckon it will foul on the bottom of the tub, they tend to come up round the back a bit which it won't be able to do with the longer tray on.

It wouldn't protect the the whole rear 1/4 it would defiantly come up short..
And look a little silly
I don't even know wether it would fit mn's and ml's are rather different under there...
