3 types of roof basket....not sure which one to go with

Hi All

Im looking to add a roof basket to the Ironman canopy on my MN. Canopy is rated for over 100kg, so capacity is not an issue.

I'm tossing up between a standard wire cage basket, a steel frame with wire base, or a full alloy bar basket.
All have sufficient capacity for my needs, and are in my price range.

Will get used for fire wood, strapping longer items to it, and general gear I don't want to put in the canopy.

These are the 3 I'm looking at.

1) Wire basket $120, 100kg capacity, weighs 11kg, nice and simple.

2) Steel frame with wire mesh base. $239, 100kg capacity, weighs 20kg, front diffuser. Probably better for strapping items too with the sturdier frame.

3) Alloy frame. $140. 60kg capacity. Weighs 13kg. Aerodynamic, and includes 2 x steel cross bars.

I've not had any experience with the alloy baskets. Anyone used them?

I'm probably leaning towards the 2nd option, as it should be nice and sturdy with the steel frame, but be rugged with the mesh base.

I've used a Rhino Alloy basket on the roof on multiple trips. Light weight and you dont have to worry about damaged paint / powdercoat to give rust a foothold.

If I was looking for something for the canopy only I'd go a tray. Gives more options for securing longer items.

The Pioneer roof trays with the tie down rails along the sides look and function fantastically, yet there not the cheapest option.

8-)
One day your life will flash before your eyes. Will it be a good show ???

Mine is similar to the first one but it has had a steel piece put in front to disrupt airflow like the second one. That second one looks good to me. Put heaps of stuff in mine and have done many many miles with it. :D

I'm currently looking at a Tradesman Rack with mesh floor - bear in mind that a mesh floor get's a bit of air noise when you don't have anything on it, but as soon as you put something on them, they are nice and quiet, and strong...
