Pioneer platform over canopy

Just put a deposit on a Rhino rack pioneer tray for mounting over the canopy. I ended up with the model that is open both front and back but has the risen sides. From those that have the sides, and those that don't have the sides, can you advise on your thoughts on one over the other, depending on the consensus I might end up changing my order.
Procrastinating is my enemy, but rather hear from those that have either and their thoughts before i get it fitted.

I had the same issue took me forever to make up my mind, ended up going open ended for no real reason just got sick of not having racks.
Solar panels,awnings and PVC pipe rod holder permanently attached.with enough space for max trax

Open ended would be more practical surely.
