In my honest opinion, scrap the tow bar and look at a tjm o arb rear protection bar, can't go wrong

I've had a look at my factory bar and a few times thaut it wouldn't be that hard to bend up some pieces of pipe or tube and weld them to flat side plates on the bar and bend them around to give some panel protection and then hook back up and bracket onto the chassis similar to the arb bar...don't think it will be that hard to do if ya have the gear and a bit of imagination...

Right gents.

I'm going to lock this temporarily while I find one of many threads already in existence to merge it into.

It will then re-open.

Thread merged and re-opened.

Specifically for the newer members, please use the Search function before you wildly charge off and start a new thread. This ended up taking me well over half an hour scrolling through many threads on this topic to find the one that it would best fit in to.

Carry on.....

I saw some photos on here of a MN with that bar. The side protection is alittle short as it was designed for a ML. Sorry but unable to remember which post it was.

That hole is for the plug, and yes, the side bars are shorter when installed on an mn. . Think there's a side on pic in my shed. Saying that, I have many scuffs on those side bars so they're definatel doing their job!

G'day,

Found this rear step on ebay the other day, to me it looks similar to the ARB bar.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/200999731924 ... 1423.l2649

Just wondering if anyone has one of these bars or dealt with these guys before?

I've contacted the seller regarding towbar rating and fitment to the MN with the longer tub. They're apparently in the process of getting the bar rated and have said it will fit the MN (I'm double checking this with them).

Cheers,
Damo

Looks fine if you were not going to tow anything. Can't find the tow rating on the eBay page?

Couple of things....

No rear bar can fit both ML and MN. Tub lengths are different.

The bar that is pictured is definitely not for a Triton. The front of the side protection bars need to be dropped down from the chassis mounting point.

I'm fairly sure that these are the MCC made bars, same as the one that I had. Tow rating was 1500kg, but that didn't bother me since I didn't tow heavy and had the bar engineered and strengthened. If I'm correct then it will look like this:

Thanks... yeah that's what I thought regarding the two models. I questioned them twice on that and their response was that because it mounts to the chassis it will fit the longer tub... I didn't bother going any further with that. Regarding the rating they said the bars aren't rated at the moment and once they are the price will be going up to $700+.

I'm going to save my $$ and go with the ARB I think.

It all depends on what you intend to do with it.

As I said, I don't tow heavy but I wanted the protection and a recovery point, plus the ability to tow when and if I needed to. So, for me, it did the job exceptionally well and was something like a thousand bucks cheaper than the ARB bar.

I had mine looked at by an engineer and then modified for extra strength. He wasn't one of the "approved" engineers for the ACT so couldn't plate it but said, with the mods it would handle 2.5t no problem although he drew the line at 3t. The mods were simple really - mainly the addition of heavy wall tube to better take the load from the hitch, plus some gusseting. Can be seen in this photo (areas with grey primer)

For the price they are at the moment they're still pretty good value IMHO.

In the near future I can't imagine I'll be towing heavy loads however I plan on keeping the triton for a while so I'm not sure what I may end up doing with it.

My concerns are that it isn't rated at all yet and that the seller doesn't seem to understand the differences between the ML and MN tubs.

The price is very tempting though when compared to ARB.

if it is too good to be true, it is.

dont even consider buying a non rated towbar. rear step only - fine. towbar - no.

you would be mad to.

ARB is overpriced for sure - but what i will end up with on the MN because they just make good solid gear. :|

That said the TJM and MCC seem to be well made as well.

Could anyone with a silver triton and an ARB rear bar provide any pics?

Am trying to decide whether I go black or colour match for the rear bar.

Cheers
