In order to get two objectives accomplished with one equipment, I made a mechanical folding step/"rockslider" considering that the chassis rail's still bellow the step's bottom so chassis will hit the ground first mostly, or I hope that! :? even thought I think the upper top of the mechanism is strong enough to resist some hits while at lower position is very easy to go up.Click to view larger picture At the end it looks like a rock slider with the benefits of a low step.Click to view larger picture Very appreciated by my wife and daughters ! 8-)

Crisis averted I phoned Glenda today and she upgraded my rock sliders order from the 'Extreme Tourer' to the 'Stealth Slider' that has both top and bottom plates. Cheers all for the heads up on this one

Glenda is very helpful and accommodating

am thinking of upgrading my side steps for a more heavy duty type of rock slider.

had a look under the car and see that the current steps are bolted under the sills, and not to the chassis rail as I expected, however as it looks like some aftermarket one are fitted onto the chassis rails.

then started talking to a mate about making a set, and he mentioned that he read that rocksliders can't be attached to the chassis (here in NSW anyway)

I guess if the step/slider was attached to the rails then that might affect the side airbags, also if t-boned then would bend the chassis and not the body work, perhaps something that insurance would pick up on if there was a claim

anyone know more on this?

I have a 2012 MN GLR and it only has two front airbags and no side airbags so that is why I felt comfortable to proceed. It you notify the insurance company that you have fitted the sliders and there are no objections you should be covered because you asked their advice. If you disputed a refusal to pay by the insurance company with the ombudsman you will likely win based on the information you were provided.

Hey fellas,

My AVA Stealth sliders arrived today. The instructions seem pretty generic so I was wanting to know if you need to drill any holes for an MN Triton installation? They say that drilling holes 'may' be necessary but I hope this relates to other makes or models. Any other info you can share on the installation would be great too.

I might install them on Friday morning

Cheers

Pretty sure I had to drill the front bolts? My memory is pretty bad but I'm remembering drilling the front plate bolts and swearing at the brake lines.

Both weren't any real issue with an easy enough fitup considering they carry the weight of the car often enough with no sign of a problem :) out of all the protection gear on it, they are by far the toughest...followed by baysies bash plates.
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

Thanks guys I can't wait to fit them. The driver's side seem straight forward, the passenger side has all the fruit (brake lines and wiring harness)

Anyone have sliders from Dominator 4x4. 50x3.2mm pipe, 8mm plate and optional 5mm skid plate.

They sound pretty solid. Does anyone know the size of steel the major slider companies use?

You have to make your own brackets?

FRDESP has ordered a set of the dominators so if you can wait a week or two I expect he will chime in with his views of them.

Seems like an awesome option for someone who doesnt have access to a mandrel bender, and can weld.
Price isn't too bad either ;)

40NB bend, $6 ea. you can also get them in 45 degree angle to match the ones in CAD drawings. I went 90 degree because i think it works better with brush bars.

I was thinking of making up a set of rock sliders but not sure about the extra weight, given that i was at the max for front and back axles on my last camping trip :(

These are the ones on this site under CAD drawings. My ones are a bit heavier as I used 3 mm 50x25 and 4 mm NB pipe. Normal is 3.2
