I have one of these to fit when I find time, is it necessary to take the flare off?

Most do but there was a recent install on a petrol one where the bloke left it on, there was a post in that thread today as I remember seeing the picture of the template taped on.

Iirc all the screws come out to remove the inner guard. May as well pull the flare off then.

Ok first of all thanks Bogor for your write up, it was a great guide and was even more important as there is not any instructions whatsoever with these things.

The only thing I will add is I reckon it would be a good idea to drill the hole from the inside of the engine bay at 115mm or even 125mm (as opposed to 105mm) I found it pretty hard to get the rubber pipe onto the snorkel. It required a fair bit of trimming.

Great info :D I bought mine from JuleLife on Ebay, It came with really good instructions, a replacement coolant res and a bloody good template. I spent a little time yesterday, matching the template to the snorkel body and my Triton and will attempt the install next weekend once I borrow the hole saws from work.

No need to remove flare at all from what I can see....I've fitted 2snorkels to mn tri and have had no dramas at all with the flare ....external hole was about 10mm above flare from memory...

Great write up. One question I have is how did you know where to drill the larger hole for the rubber intake adaptor that goes from the snorkel to the air box. I'm going to fit mine on Saturday.

Thanks

I didnt remove the flare for mine.
As far as the internal hole. I used 95mm on the outside, and kept going, til the drill bit went through the inside, then put 108mm saw on and used the drill hole as a pilot.
Wasn't far from where the washer bottle mount was.
My externel hole sat about 5mm above the flare rubber.

Any advice on the pillar mounting plate- Worth using nutserts and metric bolts instead of self tappers? :? also where did people use sikaflex, any joins near the air box and any joins in the snorkel i'm assuming?
Cheers guys.

I paid to get mine done but I gather there's an adapter plate that gets stuck onto the front of the air box with a male spigot for the pipe to clamp onto so I'd say that's where the sikaflex goes. Not sure on the rest of it but someone else will pipe up.

Nah mate I took it to opposite lock. They were putting on a bullbar and winch at the same time. Or was it the lockers? Hmm, can't remember the order of things to be honest. But plenty here have done it and some have done more than one. If there have been disasters they've been well hidden.

haha yea I haven't seen any massive stuff up pics on here yet. I'm confident doing it, just cautious of preventing rust etc that's all.

 They gave me those square plastic inserts for the holes in the A pillar. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to drill a square hole? :P Rivet nuts are better in this thin sheet than nutserts.

There is a correct way to drill the inner hole, using an existing hole as a guide. Doing it from the outside is NOT the right way.

Use Sikaflex at EVERY joint.
