Locking tyres to tray headboard

Postby JamoGLXR on Sat Mar 29, 2014 2:20 pm

Im looking to move the spare tyre out from under the tray and up onto the headboard of the tray.
what methods can i use to lock the tyres to the headboard?

what im really chasing is a key lockable spindle, I know it exists but i cant even find something remotely close to it nor can i find the words to describe it.

i know a bloke at works fleet vehicle has it on there ill take a piccie and post it up on monday

A key lockable spindle? :P :P

Just joshin.

A couple of options but the one that appeals to me is to make a post that sits on a plate on the floor (because the headboard isn't strong enough to take the weight of a spare, IMHO) then weld a disc on the post, big enough to have three wheel studs welded to it (to match the holes on your wheel, of course) and then secure your spare with the use of two normal wheel nuts and the third a lockable wheel nut.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Yep, something like that. I was actually thinking of what the Pajeros used to have of the back door (up to NP, anyway)

Here's one.

Ahh yes I see. I like that idea but I'm trying to theif proof it a bit.. Without being a hassle to get unlocked and preferably not a FSWR.
Although that's my last resort

Here's a lockable one designed for trailers:

Quite a few different ones around but I expect the trick will be finding one big enough for a 4wd tyre/rim combo.

Geez that's a handy little catalog for wheel nuts and studs and so on.

save it somewhere. 8-)

the very last page identifies how to measure and order wheel studs.
