Are you looking for LED Fog Lights or LED Day Running Lights? Buy from a reputable manufacturer/supplier as the cheaper lights from On Line Ebay type sites have the tendency to drop some of the LEDs rather prematurely.

Or do you mean led globes for the existing housing? If the last then the bulb type should in the owners manual.

ML GLX-R Replace factory fog lamps

Postby timbo-73 on Thu Jul 31, 2014 8:25 pm

Hi,
Some advice please. I have managed to crack the glass on one of my factory fog lamps and rather than replace them like for like I was wondering what options others have taken? I was looking at some LED DRLs to go into the location like these.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2PCS-4LED-DA ... 35c5ec2139

Has anyone already done this?

Cheers,
Tim

Yeah there was a bloke who used some from jaycar I think it was. Maybe search jaycar and skim through the results to see if you can pick it up?

I'm looking at replacing my fog lights that were removed when I had the XROX bar put on with these bad boys...

I mainly picked these for aesthetics... I reckon they'll look mean in the wings of the xrox bar.

One thing to remember is that very few, if any, of these lights meet any kind of standard, whether that be for DRLs or fog lights. They are usually too bright to use as DRLs and the beam pattern is almost totally uncontrolled, making them useless as fog lights. In either case the glare makes them a hazard to other drivers unless used solely in conjunction with high beam.

Of course, as driving lights they don't have to meet any standard but the usual situation is that they provide excessive foreground lighting, making your high beams or driving lights less effective because you're blinded by the foreground. The driveway photos earlier in this thread actually clearly demonstrate this - the distance vision is way better without the extra lights.

Yeah 5th I only use mine for night driving with my led bar mine never had fog lights and they look better with lights in the holes instead of the blanks

I agree with all of that entirely, I wouldn't be using them on populated roads if at all. I am also looking for some kind of lighting to deal with hairpin turns in the dark. After the night rundown to McIntyres hut, I was pretty shaken about having to pull full lock and hope for the best. I may need to invest in work lights, perpendicular to driving direction.

has anyone managed to find any flush mount ones? I would like to mount some in the rear round spots on my rear bar instead of the led 'work lights' many use

I found some nice rectangular flush mounts this morning but haven't seen any in round. I think you might be stuck with getting something as close to correct for the size and then fabricating the rest yourself. BriteLed used to have some round ones which were basically a sealed plastic insert full of small LEDs and then they stuck that in a rubber housing. So in theory you could remove the plastic from the rubber and mount that - I planned to do something like that but wasn't happy with the idea and gave up.

yeah I did the same, searched with nothing much except those square ones also.
I bought these, haven't fitten them yet, powered them up, they are really bright but would prefer full size.

I went with some LED globe replacements which have been surprisingly good. One issue with going the full size option is that you will have to turn them off if you're using them when there are other vehicles behind you. I've been looking at some small square cree worklamp type lights with a view to mounting them discretely on the ARB rear bar but it has become low priority compared to other modifications on the to do list.
