MQ drawers 3 drawers?

Postby striker99 on Sat Oct 15, 2016 6:08 pm

Hey guys, I'm in the process of making my some drawers for the MQ, I'm going to use the Teflon slider concept, and having the fridge sitting to the right of the drawers)(no need for sliders or drop slide).

What's peoples thoughts on this concept? I have a 50l water tank and recovery tracks at the front of the tray, 1200mm drawers, with the fridge sitting to the right side of the drawers. Im tossing up between a very narrow draw down the left hand side or a 40l water tank for when bush camping as per picture. Thoughts anyone?

I'm leaning towards 2 draws)(approx 370mm wide and 1150mm long) with the water tank down the side. The extra tank is for weekend camping trips for showers and washing up for 2 people to make life easier...

Similar setup to mine. I made a draw on the right side from the wheel arch just wide enough to fit a milk crate wide inside. On the left, the side panel runs from the wheel arch again as just open space. By making the draws 1200 long I have space at the back to fit my second battery when I get a chance.

Update post; I've decided to make a 2 drawer setup, and then on the right hand side where the fridge i will make a separate removable drawer that is approximately 350mm wide x 800mm deep x 100-130mm tall for putting tools in or extra tinned food for long trips, the fridge will then go on top of that drawer. The cutting is by no means perfect (my first time using a circular saw) and some cuts were made with a jigsaw before i gave up trying to cut straight!.

I'm waiting on getting some more plywood and some HDPE sliders, the sliders will go under the drawers and are 12mm tall. I'm thinking i will make 2x slide out tables that will sit between the sliders the tables will be either 9mm or 12mm ply depending on what fits best.

How do those hdpe sliders work? Just put them on the base and the draw slides? Or do you have one on the base and one on the draw? Thinking of using the same stuff for when I do mine.

Will let you know once I fit then in a few days they only just showed up.i was planning on screwing them to the drawer frame instead of to the drawers. Look up drifta 4wd drawers, you seem to only need the hdpe/Teflon on one of the two surfaces not both.

Update pics; mounted the sliders and the pull out tables, seems to work well. I'm thinking about making a small drawer under the fridge to store camping chairs possibly.
And then put the fridge on a pull out slide.

What size ply have you gone with for the build?

15mm structural plywood from burnings, 2400x 1200 sheet is a bit less than $60. 15mm is a good size as doesn't require aluminium bracing in the drawers can just pre drill holes, and glue and screw, soo much easier.

I had to buy three sheets but still have about 3/4 of a sheet left atm. Using 9mm marine ply for the table incase it gets wet.

Just about finished now besides carpeting and installing my battery that sits behind the fridge.
