Fitting Ironman Steel side steps

Postby flittyfisher on Sun Mar 11, 2018 7:10 pm

Hey
Just had the very unpleasant experience of fitting the black steel side steps on my dual vcab mq.

The reason i installed and not the dealer is they couldnt get to it for about a month so i took the initiative and hooked in.

Getting the factory ones off was easy. Thats where it stopped.

The steel ones mount to the chassis rail and low and behd the chassis rail has brakelines and hydraulic lines attached. The c clamps are very hard to get under and over these rails. I had removed holders of lines and slightly lever up the metal lines.

Then the fun started. The arms that attached to the chassis and lie flush with them were to high and hit the rib flooring of the vehicle even with the spacers included. So this meant grinding and hacks
Sawing the brackets to fit etc etc

Trust me get someone else to do it. But if you do decided to do it let me know, im an expert!

Photos to come

sounds like good fun!
I got Custom made sliders, took two blokes and a jack, as they're bloody heavy. They also went under the breaklines etc, but the hardest part was lifting them into place.

Unfortunately I'm yet to fit an ironman product that didn't need to be modified to fit. Just be careful I'm not sure if they are better designed than the MN version but sticks go up over the front chassis mount bar and get jammed directly between the sill and the step so It might be worth closing up the gap if you have one.

Just another thing about these ironman steps..has anyone noticed how damn far they stick out from the sill? Rhey protrude past the flares about 4 inches ..is that normal?

Sounding like you've got the wrong ones for your model, flitty.

Wouldn't think they should stick out further than your steps

Yes my ARB ones stick out a bit. Rub your leg getting out but the sills are protected !

How did you close the gap? Mine have a gap of close to an inch
