Waterproof Key

When I go kayaking I like to hang my car key around my neck on a piece of string. You wouldn't want to do that with the standard key as I'm sure it's not waterpoof.

I just got what I expect should be a waterproof key from Mister Minute for $150. No remote function, but it unlocks the door manually and starts the car. As far as I know the chip for the immobiliser is a sealed unit so it should be waterproof.

Why didn't you just get a key cut to get you inside and leave the fob there?

I lock my keys in the canopy, and take a canopy key with me...

Leave the expensive key/fob in the car and take a cheapie with you.

Would even be worth having a permanent hidden key, just for access, screwed on somewhere.

Worst case, you can break a small window if you lost your 'access' key.

I considered those other options but the thought of having an extra key that could be used for driving won me over. It also means that someone breaking in while I'm out on the water won't find a key they can drive the car away with.
