Impulse Triton

WELL....
The finance department has come in, and approved quite a few updates.

So, come April, the Triton will be sporting a lift and suspension upgrade, new wheels (265/65/17), long range fuel tank, and a rear air locker.

After that, am going to install a 50 inch light bar across the front of the roof racks, and get some driving lights back on, after mine were stolen (still a sore point  ). Also going to re mount the awning.

Will put pics up after all complete.

Cheers all.

Further to this? Has anyone done a similar build up, and what were your experiences?
If you are considering any of the mods for your ute, but have any queries, ask away.

Probably only a few thousand or so. What you're doing is, perhaps with the exception of the long range tank, the most common mods. That's good, they're common because they work.

Have a search through on specific mods - you'll find many hits.

Check legal placement of your roof mounted light bar. Not every State allows these and some place restrictions on their positioning.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Thanks for the tip on the light. Will check it out on vicroads now and will post the response.

Ok. Back to the drawing board.
Vicroads states it must be attached to the most forward point of the vehicle, thus the bar.

The VicRoads regs indicate they have to be mounted on the front of the vehicle.
I don't reckon you could argue that the roof rack is the front of the vehicle.

Guessing you can’t get around the law by saying, but I’ve seen it done on other cars.

Hmmmmmm

Just a heads up to anyone reading this.
I tow a 2.8t single axel van.
Took it on a decent tow yesterday, including up some decent inclines. At worst, towed at 15.5 liters per 100 ks.
As an average, get about 13.5 litres per 100.

Thats not too bad for such a big van. I tow around 700kgs with my mn daily and constantly run around 13/14 litres per hundred. I will be interested to hear how much difference the bigger tyres make when you put them on
I only drink on days starting with T... Today and Tomorrow

I get 12 per 100 in my MN, towing NOTHING. Just hauling its fat 2.35 tonne ass round town  .

Sit around 14 when i have it fully loaded and sitting at around 2.8 tonne (Still not towing).

13.5 with a big van sounds pretty good.

Ok, so, didn’t want to trust the display showing what was being consumed, so, on the way home, put 37 litres in. That was after 275 k’s.
38/275*100= 13.82 litres per 100
However, I did take the van off and run around for about 25 ks.
And I usually run around 9.2 litres per 100.

Mods go on next month, so, will let everyone know how the changes effect economy.

Ok, so, picked up the Triton today.

A fuel comparison will be done after a few trips

The list now also includes an on board air compressor and diff breathers.
Looking forward to hitting the tracks.

A week on since the most recent upgrades, and what I’m noticing.

Ride comfort and noise.

The ride is so much more comfortable. Where I used to feel body roll, now I feel a road hugging drive. Road noise coming off the tyres is no different to that front the highway terrains ( standard wheels). In saying that, I mean I don’t have any extra noise and the ride was pretty quiet then. It could have something to with the snorkel mounted by the drivers window. But I also hear other tyres making the typical road noise of all terrains or muddies.

The big query is... fuel.

And although I haven’t towed yet, I’ll be honest, I’m kind of dreading it. Fuel economy has dropped. Without towing, the Triton now is a lot thirstier, despite feeling smoother. I’m noticing I can’t, no matter how down hill the slope I’m driving on is, get the fuel consumption below 10 litres. And on average, I’d say it sits around 12 litres per 100 k’s.
I will wait until I have to fill up again to run a more accurate measure, litres used versus k’s driven. However, I know this won’t be a true indication, as I’ve been driving a little less fuel conscious at times, accelerating harder, etc, given I now know that I’m not going to run out of fue for a while.

Will let you all know when the Triton finally does tow, what the fuel consumption is like, however, I’m tipping it will be closer to 15-16 litres now.

Fitted Toyo 245 AT's increased fuel consumption by 0.4 L/100. 32psi to soften ride. Wet bitumen performance not as good as H/T that came with it.
City average now 11.2 l/100. Canopy, roof tray, and just some light gear in the back, and I'm no rev-head.
I record tank fills and Km per fill, so accurate.
Mine is MQ, first that came out in later half of 2015
There is a fuel thread and some of those figures are to dream for.

After a few fuel tanks now, I’ve recorded all averages. And it’s sitting at.....

10.7 litres per 100.
I used to get 9.2 litres.
So, all things being equal, and about to tow soon, thinking I’m going to average about 15 ish when towing. Maybe 16.
Thinking I’ll be conservative and when planning on big trips, tow with 17 in mind. That way can plan for fuel stops.
