Very nice build so far mate, the amount of work and detail you put in is impressive, I could probably learn from you haha. Just a quick question, where did you get the ChipIt chip installed? Or did you do it yourself? If so how hard was it?

Cheers mate,

Thanks everybody for the nice comments :) it is a work in progress thats very different from where it began & a long way to go yet  (thanks alot NTN   )

I did the chip instal myself, easy as. just remove the old plugs & install the new & wire up power.
some people have had trouble getting the fuel rail plug off but if you can press the release clip it should be ok. Be careful not to bend any pins when refitting. The MAP sensor wiring can be a bit fiddly if you go down that path, I always solder wiring connections & heatshrink or tape up well. with the MAP I soldered & tapped to keep it looking stock ;)

I might add some pics of the chip install next time I get the camera out :geek:

Thanks mate, sounds awesome, really considering getting a ChipIt chip with the EGT, and a new 3" Exhaust. Can't wait!

I can only dream of the exhaust upgrade, will have to wait till the stocky rusts away I think.
From what I hear they go real good with both mods done ;)

Looks like a really neat install. All ready for the 3000 river crossings on the High Country trip ;) 8-)

While we are on this clean freak subject.....I thought you were a level 9 snooozey UNTIL I saw those pics of your centre console ......those cup holders are disgusting.
Your back to a level 8....Steane is still a level 9 with a touch of OCD and Salt a level 3.....and that's generous.

Over the last week or so I have been setting up for my rear seat replacement & aux battery location.

All I started out doing was getting a wire from my tub worklight to the inside switch on the console. For this I needed to remove the rear seat. I then thought "that's a lot of space" & remembered a post about making it usable.

I got somewhat sidetracked from the original plan & ended up at the hardware buying steel & timber
I started building a frame to sit the fridge on for trips that don't allow the van or trailer. The fridge is an 80 size Waeco so it takes heaps of space :( , but holds lots of beer :D

with the new frame I can utilise the space much better & get the lid of the fridge open nearly all the way as it sits much lower than when on the seat.

enough chat, here's the pics :ugeek:

The timber on the rear wall will be used to fit-up the aux battery fuses, switches, charger etc (similar to Kegsy's build.
As the GLX does not have the rear wind down window there is plenty of room :)

After removing the seat & driving around for the week I was surprised how much noise came through the wall
A trip to the local AutoPro & I had some under bonnet self adhesive sound deadener. This made a real difference & I would recommend this for all GLX models  even if the seat stays in place.

I moved the wheel brace clips to a better location & I will cut some of the ply away on the left side when I get a battery & tray to suit.

More good work snooozy.

I've been thinking about adding more soundproofing as well. I reckon it would help cut down on the tyre roar from running muddies, as well as a few of the other little resonances that turning the radio up takes care of at the moment.

Are the sound deadening sheets very heavy/dense?

more like foam with a nylon covering. the self adhesive sticks quite well too.
I was surprised by how well it worked. I cant hear the springs squeaking now

Dynamat is heavy and sticky. It's also nice and shiny...

I looked online at Dynamat, went for a cheaper option & was surprised.

I'm sure Dynamat would have been even better soundproofing

I also considered the paint-on sound proofing but didn't want the smell in the cab

and the story goes something a little like this.....

I had arranged to do a swap ;) with Ratstriton for his ARB rear bar & my ML GLX factory bar. After his tub removal the rear protection bar did not really look right :?

As we live 1 1/2 hrs apart it was arranged to do the changeover on the day of the 4x4 show as we would both be there on the same day... all good so far :)
We decided that doing the transfer in the car-park with the chance of being seen putting the bar under the tonneau cover un-secured might be risky at a 4x4 show with 1000's of 4wd enthusiasts attending.

So we had a meeting place a few streets from the showgrounds ...we thought it was clever

What was not clever was that we did not consider the length of the ML tub & the width of an ARB bar :o it overhung the tub by about 8 inches with the tailgate down  not very secure. derrrr.

mmm, plan B. Mooons is on his way to the show, he has a big arsed MN, that will work.
On the phone to mooons & he is only a few minutes away, "no problems I'll be there shortly", & he was 8-)
We remove the boxes from the MN (remember he has a canopy & a set of Black Widow drawers fitted.
In goes the ARB bar....it aint gonna fit.

Ahhhhh bugger we have 2 plans left- C & D, (we are making up plans as we go now) take it home 1hr drive each way & go back to the show, or my sister lives somewhere around this area :? , Footscray I think. I could drop it there & pick it up later-if she's home.
Mooons suggests plan E, why don't we just fit it now. So out with the tools (this guy is prepared for almost any situation ;) ) & into the fitting mode. I was relegated to spanner hander as mooons & ratstriton were under the car like a flash.
The looks from people driving by was quite funny, it must have looked very suss 3 Tritons parked in a small unused factory car-park working on a towbar. The police didn't arrive so the locals either don't care or we left before they arrived
The whole process took about an hour & we were back on our way to the show :D

We decided to follow mooons to the show & the first corner he turned was the wrong direction, we got to upset a few other drivers as we did a U turn & back around the roundabout, Rats being caught in the left lane doing a right turn ...more upset motorists

Over-all a very enjoyable start to the day -who said you need to be 4WDing to have fun :D

Thanks very much for your help guys, I owe you one ;)

Latest mod is a Longranger 125lt fuel tank purchased from ARB at the 4x4 show $170 off full price (10% discount)
Fitted with the help from my dad
managed to fit it without removing the tail-shaft (just as well, the bolts were that tight I could not budge them) Just needed to jack the body up a fair way to allow the tank to get the right angle.
Or if you have a set of ramps that would work very well

They come in just a grey undercoat so I gave it a couple of coats of black to keep the rust away

put the 20lts in from my old tank & it's just enough to move the gauge above the empty line & fuel light off.
At least I know exactly how much it holds, not like the std tank.
that means I should have about 150km when the light comes on

Filled it to the brim & it takes 128lts, took advantage of a 12c/ltr discount from Woolworths :D $15 saving 8-)

I did notice the car feels quite heavy when the tank is full, not really a problem as I usually dive solo anyway.
