Fuel Additive/Injector Cleaner

Postby RforRobert on Fri Jan 11, 2008 9:18 pm

I would like to hear some views on using a diesel fuel cleaner/additive in my Triton (2007). Are they any good? Do they void warranty?
Thanks in advance...RforR.

Fuel Additive/Injector Cleaner

Not sure they do any good for the vehicle but it makes me feel good using it??

There is a reason to use an Algicide in the tank to ensure no Algae can grow in it.

How do the injectors like having the algae run through them? I mean if you already have algae and then add it does it flush it out? I know a lot of people get caught out by bio fuel because it cleans the lines and all the gunk blocks the fuel filter/injectors causing problems.

Ive been using Pro-Ma DT5 Plus Diesel Treatment from day one, now 15,000km young.
Stuff if i know if its does anything, but just turns the fuel to a cool shade of blue.
With the type of fuel you get in the out back it can't hert.

How do you see what colour your fuel is? Also can anyone tell me where the fuel filter is?

By putting it in my yellow fuel drums you can see the diesel turn a light shade of blue.

We have crap diesel here looks like canal water. Its a dirty brown. My UTE gets really lazy on take off from 1000 rpm until 1800 when the turbo spools. Once it spools it launches. Everytime i put a treatment it works well. I tried something new and it worked even better. I poured the diesel treatment then i sprayed carb cleaner in the bottle till about 1/4 full then emptied that as well into the tank. Now i feel almost no hesitation at take off.

I need some advice, will the carb cleaner drastically reduce the lubricating properties of the fuel and wear the fuel pump? I have about 40 liters in the tank now.

I use Fyrex CI.

Stops algae, cleans injectors and I do believe I get slightly better economy. But there's not too much in it.

just fyi mitsubishi have a genuine cleaner now... see our recent discussions here. Would be good to get others feedback as well... reduced my hesitation issue that only getting with a chip on.. engine running smoother and quieter too.

i would think pouring carby cleaner in your fuel would not be a wise idea.. :?

fyrex info here

never heard of it until here is it supposed to be good CD and Kegsy??

//
EDIT: notice they are putting the fyrex product in a premix 'super diesel' around sydney... (small family bizo)

i know this is about diesel additives but FYI for those with petrol engines there is a product called 104... when your tank is filled with 98 octane you add a bottle of this and its bring the octane level to 104. 8-) good in petrol turbo motors.
i vote for a html version of the Gasa strip in between the 2 sites. then the goons who wanna get all parochial about their trucks can chuck rocks and shit at each other. by cyberhonky on Wed Jul 15, 2009 6:37 am

Apart from the Mitsu product are the others meant for common rail diesels??. I was told not to use additives unless they are CRD friendly.

Hey guys, just purchased this product a few weeks ago.

I unfortunately had not come across the mitsi fuel cleaner thread before. Has anyone used it? It was rather expensive at $56 for the litre and is mixed at 200ml per 80L.

I was advised to use the 200ml and then add a cap full to every tank. What are people's thoughts on this amount as the instructions are vague with regards to frequency. I only used half the recommended amount last tank as I only had half a tank. Should I do the next half this tank? Can you over use this type of product? Cheers guys.

Fuel Additive/Injector Cleaner

Ok this is sort of related. Been raining for a week, short on fuel, pulled into local servo, diesel pump not under cover. Went to fill her up and as I pointed the nozzle at the open fuel filler some clear liquid ran out. A bit went in but I managed to stop most. I then pointed the nozzle at the ground and I'd say 300-400ml of water ran out!
Lucky I carry a bottle of fuel doctor . Added half a bottle and filled up. I hope that was a near miss!

I've been using a new fuel additive from Cooma Diesel (in Fyshwick Canberra) for the last 2 tanks of fuel and its fixed a surging issue I was having almost altogether. Couldn't be happier and it seems to help economy too. $34 does 30 tanks or more.

The most important thing a marine diesel mec told me is to stick to one brand....if you have to change run a few tanks trough without additive...

Someone was telling me that they add a small amount of 2 stroke oil to a full tank, has anyone come across this before?

I was on my phone. A quick search of "2 stroke" got 172 matches but some relate to chainsaws etc.

There is more than one thread on it IIRC but here's a fairly recent one with the sort of title that would make it relevant:

I just recently bought this online from Responsive Engineering, hopefully will get it soon. Saw an article from 4x4 Magazine and the guys swear by it. There is some good reading if interested.
