Just looks like the standard vinyl tonneau material in silver ag ;) , you got the big bourbon goggles on tonight don't you :shock: :lol:

Ok guys I need your help. I have my second fuel tank mounted and I'm about to start plumbing the fuel lines. I need to know if there are any benefits to running the fuel filter before or after the fuel pump?

Here are some pics so far.

Any advice on the plumbing would be great.

I realise what your saying re. the weight issue. The tank will weight around 170kg when full. It was designed when I still had the ML tub on the Triton so doesn't extend right to the rear of the MN tub.
I have also removed the twin wheel carrier, two spare wheels, heavy fibreglass canopy, roof top tent etc to shed some weight from the tub. The fastback canopy is light and can be picked up easily by one person and due to its design, limits over packing the tub at the rear. I have one spare wheel sitting upright, 40lt of water, tools and recovery gear stored at the front of the tub (this is all easily accessed when the canopy is opened from the side of the tub.) with lighter gear at the rear. With exception of the fridge which is a small engel.

I'm hoping with the Triton pack this way I will have no issues with my chassis.

All up I should have around 210lt of fuel on board. This should give me around 1300km range (16lt/100km).

I've booked in for an EcuTek tune in a few weeks. I'm hoping to get a bit more power and better fuel economy. At the moment it's woeful.

Took off down to Robe for the long weekend with guys from Pro 4x4 and the Ultimate Lifestyle 4x4 Club.

What a great weekend. We stayed just out of Robe Friday night. Saturday we hit the beach and dunes. We ended up at Southend where we camped Saturday night, Sunday we made our way along the beach and through the dune tracks to Carpenters Rocks.
9 cars attended in total.

The week before we left I had the bottom intake manifold replaced by Mitsubishi and took the car out to "Morpowa" at Modbury North for an EcuTek retune.
The difference is amazing. They achieved a solid power increase (nearly 50% at the wheels), the car is now exciting to drive. The fuel economy has improved out of sight as well. Prior to the retune we were in the 16lt/100km loaded and pushed the 19 or 20lt/100 with off road beach type driving. On our way down to robe we recorded 13.8lt/100km loaded and for the trip, including hard beach and dune driving we averaged 15.8tlt/100km.

I installed the new long range tank where the spare wheel used to be positioned. The tank ended up holding 154lt giving us 222lt total. After the first day travel we pumped about 40lt into the front tank, transferring some weight forward from behind the axle. We ended up traveling 1100km and I still have 3/4 of my main tank left.

The EcuTek tune has given me new confidence in the car.

Hi there, just read your whole build thread. Very impressed! Can you tell me if the mcc rear bar you fitted was for an ML or an MN? I am picking up an MN tub for my ML next week and I'm wondering if my existing factory ML tow bar will fit with the longer tub or do I need to by an MN one.

I had a standard ML GLX bar on the triton with the MN bar for a while. It was accessible but tight. For me it covered in a gap. With out any rear bar, the body and suspension lift the back looked far too high.

I've attached a pic of the std rear bar (ML)

In regards to the spare wheel carrier, have you had it engineered? As that voids all legality from the tow bar manufacturer as well as your insurance is affected as it does not comply with ADR rules and regulations therefore it is illegal. Before you have a go at me I am in the motor trade and I am a trade qualified panel beater so I do know what I am talking about. I hate seeing all illegal mods on cars so I just wanted to make sure you new about the legality of things in regards to modifications.

sounds like one of the guys on face book thats always saying this sort of stuff is against the law... not your car so dont worry...

Also, a guy cut all the loops off his bullbar.. made if flat.... had an accident and what do you know... insurance covered and its getting replaced...

just saying.....

You sir are an i**** if your towing something and your trailer comes off because you have modified it I sure know I wouldn't want to be traveling anywhere near you, so no not my car but yes everyone should be worried. There are ADR ( Australian design rules ) in place for a reason and a lot of people ignor them and face big penalties for such.

Ease up mate. I'm not sure who you're suggesting might be an idiot, but it's out of line. You're free to express your opinion but not to start insulting people on this forum. If you want some sort of slanging match you might find facebook a bit more accommodating, they seem to thrive on that sort of stuff.

Cheers guys, for the support.

I find the above few posts amusing in a way. As good as a forum is we never get to either see or tell the full story of our projects so I guess it's hard for anyone to make a comment regarding legalities or weather or not something should or should not be engineered, if it has been engineered or if it hasn't. I think you get what I'm talking about.
Without people willing to spend their own coin and develop different combinations of equipment and accessories, this forum would be full of stock Utes limited to what the factory intended for them. In my eyes this is what make this forum so good.


As this is a build thread, and my build is complete (dare I say it). I'd like to thank everyone who has given me advice, good and bad along the way.

I have completed what I set out to do, and now have a daily driver capable of long distance touring with my family.

Onto the next Project.

(Maybe a re bodied Nissan Patrol, Duramax Turbo V8. Who knows. I do like the Idea of a coil sprung, live axle, turbo diesel v8, ML Triton. )
