For those being able to fit batteries behind the seats are they running on models without openable rear window? I can't fit anything over 10-12cm in depth behind the seat or the seat won't push back. Not sure if I can fit a slim front terminal battery as they are narrow but long (around 40cm)

I don't know of anyone with a wind down window (GLX-R) that has a battery behind the seat.

All are GLX's to my knowledge.

Even "sealed gel type" batteries -can- vent gas in the event of overcharging. You'd be right in saying they vent "far less" gas than normal lead acid flooded batteries when used correctly and with "normal" charge rates but, they all incorporate a safety valve to prevent case explosions under overcharge conditions....

This is partially correct.
All gel and AGM batteries are what are called VRLA batteries or Valve Regulated Lead Acid where the electrolyte is gelled or absorbed in glass mat. Under normal conditions the valve will never "vent" but under extreme charging, discharging or fault conditions then can vent built up pressure. Due to the gelling or matting of the electrolyte it will not discharge large volumes of acid or hydrogen gas like wet cell batteries do. Sealed wet cell or maintenance free wet cell batteries should be treated the same as a normal wet cell battery i.e. Not for a sealed environment.

This might seem like a really dumb question

What are you guys using to fix your plywood "backing board" to the rear wall of the cab area?

Are you drilling holes in the cab wall, and then using a bolts and nut combo, or some other solution?

I can't seem to find any pre drilled holes to use ...

Apart from the jack and handle I have a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, recovery kit, socket set and a couple of nylon ropes. It's a good place for a 2 piece rod and some basic fishing gear too.

Any chance of a pic?

Great set up ... how is the tray / bracket for the compressor mounted?

Is it attached to the "backing board" only, or also into the cab rear wall?

I used the bolt holes for the child seats and brackets down to the bolts that holds the seat base down.

The bolt holes are not a standard metric or imperial thread. Cant remember the type though

So using the child restraint points and seat base anchor points to attache the base of the "L" bracket?

I used the top 2 threaded holes. It is an 09 ML so is probably different from MN's

Hey guys is there any hydrogen gas from charging the batteries in the cabin?

Not sure about all brands but my Optima Yellow top has a small sealed vent so it will vent from a purpose built weak point if an overcharging fault occurs. I simply ran a hose from this vent out the back wall of the cab.

Just a little stupid question is there any trick to folding the seat down like a latch or just gotta give it a good pull? I just can't seem to get mine to budge aha

There's a small strap up the top between centre and passenger headrests. Pull that straight up to disengage the latch.

I have drilled out the anchor points for the child seats (LHS and RHS) and installed (on passenger side) a Full River 120 aux batttery with Victron monitor and battery protector. It is a snug fit but works well. On the drivers side I have installed a thin, tall plastic box, which has 2lts coolant, brake fluid, 2lts engine oil, spare oil and fuel filters and spare belts (spare air filter is under passenger seat). I have also mounted a soft rifle bag against the rear of the back seat and can store my rifle (out of sight). It works really well for me. Only problem is that I have the Engel sitting on the read drivers side seat which means I have to pull out the Engel if I need access. Not a big problem as battery is no maintenance and spares I hope to never use!

Btw replaced my Exide Stornaway with Full River battery and never looked back.
