Spoke to the Mitsubishi Link System support number again and they said go to the dealer. Who couldn't get it to work in the first place.. What to do..

My head unit came with a default pass code of 1212 if you use the menu options to pair. If you use the voice commands it generates a new random code each time. Neither of these worked with my Galaxy S5 but did with other phones. To get another Samsung to work I changed the code to 1234 and it worked straight away. Deleting the pairing and doing it again wouldn't work though. Changed the code to 0000 and my phone worked straight away too. I think the key is to change the code in the Mitsubishi Link System menu right before pairing. Worked for me anyway so maybe worth a shot.
