Just pulled mine off and the 2.5 has it too. The clamp wasn't exactly overtight and I got another full turn putting it back on to get the paint dob back on top again so the other clamps are getting checked too.
Biggest butterfly I've ever seen apart from on much bigger engines.
Spring loaded in the open position so we can assume disabling the electrics driving it will leave it open but I suspect it only closes on the over-run. That's based on the assumption it's linked to the EGR valve.
Although the exhaust before the turbo always has more pressure than the boost pressure that might be less pronounced on the over-run? Restricting the intake, before the point the EGR valve dumps it's toxic load into the manifold, would cause a vacuum and increase the toxic flow. Maybe it operates at light throttle, off boost, to increase the flow so it actually burns the stuff twice?
It might be beneficial by providing additional engine braking and could be the source of that subtle roaring I can hear on the over-run? There is certainly excellent engine braking right down to idle that I think?? is more pronounced with the EGR blocked although it's not something I was looking for.

Davey,
The messages sit in the outbox until they've been read by the recipient. Looks like they haven't been sent. ;)

bit hard to say, this week I've had the ecu reflashed for first time also had carbon cleaned out of the inlet manifold, got a power chip up and running and wound the boost up so each day it has driven better and better, I'm not sure if it has made it better to drive but it's given me piece of mind

Its the best value for dollar mod done to the Triton, just went around the block and you can tell straight away.

Its all in the pick up off idle where it seems to now have better response to the low down torque.

Look forward to see if this also effects fuel as well.

Thanks, Heaps Alex.

5 minute job :)

:P :P :P :P :P

So you got that asshole bolt out without cutting yourself to ribbons. Im a mechanical engineer by trade and i had to wipe my blood off the A/C Pipes..

Yes the turbo boosts up instantly with the mod. I drove my work mates new Hilux yesterday (800km old) and the triton has alot more feelable grunt, and more instant torque...

Has anyone gone for a 2nd gear blastoff from the traffic lights. Before the blank off mod it would bog down and kangaroo, now ... Rev it a tad and slide off the clutch, The boost hits instantly and you roar off suprising some ...

the front bolt came off easy enough, the rear one took a bit of extra leverage from a 17mm ring spanner but all up it only took 20 minutes and while I didn't graze any knuckles I've got an inch long gash in my forehead from the front corner of the bonnet (a good excuse for that suspension upgrade)

The gasket is made up of I think brass/copper (I got no idea which one:) ) plates, I think 4, pressed together by 2 tabs on either end. I was able to slide my plate in between them and added some slight pressure to align it up with out breaking the pressed tabs. If it ever gets removed the gasket is still together.

Usually copper for the exhaust, might even be annealed so it's soft and seals better.
Mine was stainless steel on the 2.5 with raised collapsable sealing faces on both halves and strong spot welds holding it together.
