Hey all,
On a trip for the last 2 weeks up to Coral bay WA and back to Perth, I was towing a 2.5 T Caravan. on the first day up in the first 2 hours of our drive the weather was nuts and had massive head winds.
on pushing the pedal down heading up a hill in 4th ( automatic gear box) The check engine light came on. I stopped and checked it on my EDC and found Error code P0546 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit High come up. now i thought maybe i was pushing it too hard and the EGT was heating up way to much so slowed it down and didn't push it as hard and she stopped coming up. ( it came up about 5 time on the way to Kalbarri)
Last year i was towing a 2.6T Caravan and did not have any issues what so ever...
I noticed when i kept within the following parameters that it stopped triggering the Error code but wanted to know what i should do next. (i have engaged with a mechanic to check things out, but has anyone else had similar issues?)
Code Triggered when the following happened
MAP:240-255
IAT: 62-72
ECT: 95
No code would trigger if i kept within these parameters
MAP: 230 and below
IAT:72 and below
ECT: 98 and below
----------------------
ECT never went over 101 and IAT average was between 60 and 72 degrees
Keeping the MAP at 230 and below seemed to be the most effective way of not triggering the code
is this just a case of replacing the EGT sensor or is there something more sinister going on?
Thanks for any help in advance guys
