EGR valve

EGR valve

Postby lovestriton on Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:56 pm

Ok weird happenings, hence post.
Got eng light on the other day.
Code for EGR.
Soon as cleared code came back straight away, so assumed EGR valve faulty.

Bought a new EGR valve, cleared code.

All good till I parked up and went to go again.

Now if you start car before letting engine light go out on dash engine light stays on coding EGR valve.
Clear code drives fine until you stop and start again

However .
I figured out

If I clear code and wait till engine light goes out on dash , no code is generated , so no engine light.

Any ideas on where to start?

I'd be checking plug and wiring loom from there back. If the plug has flat pins , may be worth putting a couple of degrees twist on them to ensure a good contact. Don't think anything has to be set to match to ecu, but one of the experts may chime in.

No worries. This process fixed issues with my MAF sensor years ago.

Its back and its so random now , I dont know, even before you start the car now the engine light remains on at times and doesnt go out, so motor doesnt need to be running for it to fault.. Just ign on.

Where to start now...

I assumed that your engine light has only been caused by your EGR. No other possible causes?

Pain, these intermittent faults!

After three visits, I think I've finally determined shot, surge protected power board has been tripping a RCD.

Back to your demon; try and track the wiring loom from the EGR all the way back to the ECU.
You could have a dodgy connector somewhere in the loom.

Any chance there's been moisture in the cabin?

Years ago I had the issue with the drivers side seat belt restraint system. Dealers were replacing a whole section of wiring! I traced the wiring after several fault alarms. On cleaning the connectors at each end of said cable, never had a problem again.

Hi does anyone have the EGR schematic, I managed to find an identical Triton and my egr is working fine, On my car it doesn't go above 0%. when we did the swap it works fine on the other car cycling around 80% on startup and not throwing any codes, so I suspect signalling from somewhere. It would help with a schematic. It would also be very helpful if anyone could explain to me how it's wired back to the ECU and how it interacts with the maf sensor. I've done a bit of reading but you guys seem to know pretty much how it works and I just want to ensure I'm not missing anything. Thanks a lot Mike
