definately more responsive and oil cleaner with plate in but mine had a flat spot/surge @ 2300rpm to 2800rpm, was pouring smoke out the back and engine had a more pronounced knock to it

Which photo in this thread shows the best place to blank the EGR on a 3.2?

I noticed some blank it back near the intake and others near the exhaust manifold...

Which is most beneficial?

Cheers

where it meets the exhust manifold near the firewall drivers side on ML3.2DID. no point letting gasses go beyond this point 8-)

It's been dumping oil into the intake for 3 years, another week wont make much difference. :(

Just blanked it off using S/S, who put all those engine components so close to the bolts!

Just a quick question, where does all the carbon go now that it is blanked? will it build up in the exhaust manifold or will it swirl back out through the turbo/exhaust?

cheers

It wont even go in there because there's no flow to draw it in.
Like a house on a hot day with one window open, you need another one open on the other side of the house to make the air flow through.

Just test drove after the install, very noticeable difference in performance!
I lost power down low when I went to the bigger 265/75 tyres but this mod has brought the power back like when I was running the 245/75's!

All I need is the oil catch can and it will be sweet!

Cheers boys!

my service manager told me he had 4 Triton's out there on trial with the EGR blanked off, this is where he told me to do mine (first photo). Also said it can be blanked off on the other side (second photo)....that's where i did mine.

you can see the blanking plate in between the two flange

In the second photo, where that pipe comes across from right to left, at the end on the left hand side near the firewall is where I blanked mine... shit of a spot to get too!

I would blank it off as close as possible to the EGR valve without restricting it's movement. Just to make sure there's no pressure or vacuum effect from the cooling chamber when it opens.

thats a interesting point there sierra! you could be very right :?: :!:
how many have blocked at the end and what are they getting re limp modes?

mine blocked at the source is so infrequent that it doesnt bother me so much... (still buying a chip but mainly for the extra power...)

I blocked my EGR off after having a 3" mandrel bent exhaust and k&n filter installed. To be honest I can't really notice any change in the performance! The exhaust obviously makes a big difference and the air filter goes really well. I have noticed though on a cold start she does roll a bit more coal then before......I think this may have more to do with the free flowing exhaust! I do feel better about driving the car with the EGR blanked off as reintroducing dirty air in the intake doesn't make much sense to me!

What are the fines if you're caught with it blanked off.
I was told last night they are around $25K and that they'll find it at a roadside inspection if they stick the sniffer on the exhaust.
Is there any real chance of actually being caught, and what is the fine?

It's a valve that opens within an rpm range under certain conditions.
They would have to drive it with the sniffer in place and be able to replicate those conditions or pull the system apart to find the blank.
No catalytic converter or an empty one would be easy to pick up though, I would have thought?

On a road side inspection (rta setup which is rare), if they find something a miss they will issue you with a defect and an inspection request for an AVIS or EPA test, or both.

An inspection from the Cops won't reveal anything, and most of the time they don't know what they are looking at. They are trained to look for specific items "hoons" generally install.

If picked up at an RTA setup, you then take the car to either location for the test by a certain date. Usually more than enough time to get the plate out.

Cat delete on the other hand is an on the spot fine, which is a max of 25K and is super easy to spot. Don't be removing a cat in any circumstance.

I definitely have no intention of removing a cat.
I'm not sure I'm even going to do the EGR at present. At the price Alex charges, I've ordered one anyway, they're cheap as chips anyway, and can make my decision further down the track when the time comes.

Thanks for the information though. Much appreciated.

Mate, just found this from a NSW factsheet:

Tampering with anti-pollution or vehicle
emission control systems
At the time of manufacture or importation into
Australia all new vehicles are required to meet
minimum standards for pollution prevention.
Changing these anti-pollution devices is illegal and
can compromise vehicle performance and possibly
affect warranty.
Anyone who removes, disconnects or impairs an
anti-pollution system fitted to a motor vehicle is
guilty of an offence. They can be issued with on
the spot fines or can be prosecuted. Customers
who request that you alter such devices are asking
you to break the law. L ikewise the fitting of non
standard engine management chips and/or exhaust
systems is an offence.
Owners of vehicles that have had anti-pollution
devices removed or altered are liable for fines or
prosecution as are the people who completed the
work. Fines for these offences go up to $1 million
for corporations and $250,000 for individuals.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

wow, looks like the fines have gone up again. Good enough reason to leave everything alone.

As far as the exhaust goes, your allowed to change the exhaust as long as it contains the same amount and position of cats, mufflers and resonators. And obviously complies to sound limitations and all sensors are connected where fitted OEM.

You are not allowed to remove or reposition any of the above items, if you do it must be engineered.
