Will MV Triton 18’s fit MR GLX+?

Postby BlueTriton59 on Mon Nov 18, 2024 2:09 pm

Considering a set of as new MV Triton 18” factory alloys with factory fitted Maxxis Bravo AT 790 tyres 265/60/18.

For my 2019 GLX+ that currently has the factory 16” alloys.

Q1: are they are a straight swap, no issues with them fitting on the MR GLX+?

Q2: looks like they might use a different style wheel nut, and in any case my current wheels are silver and the 18’s are dark grey so will need a set if these ones dont come with them. Can anyone confirm what wheel nuts would be required and where’s best place to get a set?

Q3: i dont know anything much about these Maxxis tyres, the 790 model dont seem to be available aftermarket here, but similar ones are and they are quite pricey. I want quiet tyres that are fuel economical and last a decent mileage. Any thoughts on these tyres appreciated.

Moved topic to 5th Generation, Tyres & Wheels.

I haven't actually done that wheel swap but they should fit ok. Bear in mind that offset changed from +38 to +46 but this may work to your advantage.

Pop in to your local tyre dealer to check the wheel nuts.

The Maxxis 790 is a pretty mild AT. The extra tread depth should give you longer mileage compared to others with similar rubber hardness but they won't be as quiet or quite as fuel economical as an HT but the longer tyre life should offset that. Running them at higher pressures will help with fuel economy.

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay us to do it?

Thanks for that Chris.

The 8mm offset change isnt much, but should account for the increased tyre width over the current 245/70/16’s if I am correct.

The Bridgestone AT’s my car came with from new have been OK but have gotten harder as they’ve worn and are just about due for replacement.

Its a tempting deal for 5 wheels and tyres - Id say the guy has taken delivery of the MV and gone straight to a BJTM and got a new set of big wheels and tyres, like so many seem to do. And then selling the factory originals to recoup some costs. Id have to factor in a set of wheel nuts and a balance.

Hmmmmmm…. Some thinking to do…….

Ok well I went ahead and got these tyres/wheels.

Had them fitted this morning, using the same wheel nuts as were used for the 16” alloy wheels. No issues with fitting and as you can see from the photo they are sitting nicely inside the wheel arch.

I spoke to a friend who recently retired after owning a BJ TMart and he said the Maxxis were one of the best tyres he sold, up there with the best, and rarely had any issues.

Ive been for a quick drive locally and they’re quiet at speeds up to 80kmph which was the fastest speed zone I could find.

And they hang on much, much better than the Bridgestone AT’s ever did. Weather here has been rainy all day, and tested on a few roundabouts and the difference in grip is just amazing.

Very happy with how they fit and how they look.

5 tyres and factory alloy rims for less $ than the price of only 4 new quality tyres, got to be happy with that!
