I stuffed my last clean up big time! Firstly too much oil, then I put the stupid thing in upside down! Don't do that, as it had a good go at sucking the foam towards the MAF sensor, which now looks like one of those Jurasic Park amber mosquitoes. Took me 30 minutes to clean the oil out of the intake pipe.
I'm told brake cleaner will get rid of the hardened oil...
I'm now getting 12L per 100, up from 10.5 average.

Don't do too much driving with the oily/dirty sensor mate.
They say it doesn't take much to burn it and then your up for hundreds.

Looking down the top of the airbox from the turbo pipe side (upside down)... See the amber looking blob on the wire?
I assume this is buggered, or is this just what they look like, can anyone confirm or deny? It's as hard as epoxy.

Filter after 3 months or so, there seem to be little droplets on the shit eating side, nothing through on the backup filter though. Click on the image below.

That's the inlet air temperature probe.
The scoop next to it measures the air flow.

Looks fine...but that is the bit that burns if too much oil on the filter IIRC.

Thanks for the info, it really looks like thick oil went solid on the probe!

Yeah at the weekend Daryn

It's still clean on the side that counts.

But I'm tipping that's why I was doing 12L/100km the last 2 tank fulls and its not the chip making me use more

I am very dissapointed, in the Brindies Trip thread I posted my filter pics and reminded everyone to clean asap, shame on you once again, thats all I can say.

I usually travel with two so that on the way home I can quickly pop the clean one in.

don't know about 5 :o but two is very handy. on my old troopy which had a round cleaner there was the main filter and then some 'bands' or outer filter covers that i bought about three of. as these were the parts that got dirty you could just have em all prepared and then slip one off and a clean one on in two minutes.

now with only one i have to clean, dry and oil all while the car is standing there naked (and undrivable). so i am thinking about getting another one so i can do a quick swap and go. another $100 though unlike about 10 or 15 as with the old troopy round outer bands.

You could always carry a spare paper one, snowy. Only problem is they don't take kindly to washing and oiling....

i got my warranty reapir and oil change yesterday and the dealer rep said my car created much discussion about the snorkel with other customers who wanted one. i left the uni filter in and they made no comments.

i can't believe how many tritons are at the service department now - they are becoming very popular.
