Turbo Timer ???

Postby King Triton on Sun Jan 20, 2008 11:03 pm

Do yo need a turbo timer on a new ML diesel Triton?
Why is it never a factory fitted item?
I have herd that its because the boost on factory turbos are not very high so it is not much of an issue the turbo does not get as stressed or hot?
where as aftermarket turbos are usually set at higher boost for more power gain so it makes it neccesary?

I have one fitted if only used for short trips you should be ok but if you use it for distance work I would fit one, some stealerships say its not needed as normally you dont drive at 100k+ then stop, thhat you would have been slowing down before you stop, says who when I am away with the trailer on I keep the speed up until I pull into the roadhouse. !!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)  8-)

Also it cheaper to pay for a timer than a turbo??????????

Theres one on mine - IMHO, all diesels should be warmed up before working hard, & left to idle down a bit after getting a 'work-out'..........;)
Tip # 1 - Avoid stress & grief & low resale values with vehicles - do it once - do it right, buy a HILUX!!

The Triton turbo is watercooled so not really a need for a turbo timer.
The advances in oil technology have virtually eliminated the old heat soak issues anyway.
Also turbo technology has improved and they are much better/more reliable.
Just be conscious to not thrash it just before you have to stop.
You rarely hear of blown turbo's nowadays on modern turbo vehicles long gone are the days of the old non watercooled Nissan Pulsar/Cordia Turbo popping a turbo every 40,000K's.

No - you're not. And I seriously want to move on from 'that' whole thing really...............

I'm making some changes to ensure it does'nt happen again though, even if there was a fair bit of it just being 'bad luck' involved.

I also got one for $90.
He must not have been selling many, drop the price- Newtriton finds out lots of people who have been on the sideline think why not?

Probably sold 20 units in that week! Maybe more as there are over 500 members.

Hey guys this might be a simple question. But the likes of turbo timers and remote starting keys for that matter. You would have to leave your car parked in neutral wouldn't you. If you were to be walking away while they still running or starting them before you get to them. Not a fan of that seen to many cars run off down hills because the handbrake failed.

That is a drawback of installing them in manuals. Fine in autos though
