New Triton Makeover due June 2009...

Postby Bammo on Sun Nov 02, 2008 10:09 pm

Hi Guys,

I was reading in the auto news liftout of The West Australian this morning about the re-launch of the Mitsu Outlander early next year. Article mentioned that that this new model is based on the same chassis as the new updated Triton due to be launched in Australia in mid 2009!

Anyone heard anything about this?

Do you mean the new Challenger?
I would be interesting if the Triton and the Challenger will be identical underneath as the Challenger has a coil sprung rear end. Will Mitsu break new ground again (like it did with SuperSelect in the Triton) by offering the first Japanese doublecab ute with coils in the rear?

If you have a look at this thread http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=2732 it has a lot of the info.
The interior looks remarkably like a triton, but notice the auto gearbox on page 3, hopeing its a 5 speed.

It will be interesting to see what spec level is released to the Aussie market.

D'oh! You are correct Brett, it was the Challenger not the Outlander. The article implied that there was a major change to the platform and it would be released on the challenger first and then the Triton - the coils would seem to fit that bill.

I'll read that other thread now... :)

Guys, I have just returned from my dealer and he has told me to expect higher engine output (For diesel, unsure of petrol) 180mm longer tray, front makeover and also a makeover for the rear..

180mm longer tray sounds good, but will be a bitch to park at the shopping centres awfully small car spaces..

Might be at the expense of the rear cab space once again - given that the Challenger re-release will likely re-take the market share of those Triton buyers who would prefer a proper 4-door wagon (not a D-C ute with a leaky canopy!!).

My boss has a update (with super select, sept 2008 update) and the tub is the same lenght as mine. (april 2008 update)

I'm pretty sure the update with the tub has not been released yet (if it comes).

mind you it has been 1 month since a new change has come out of the triton factory.

Thanks ML-VR08,

Am in Sydney so would be a bit of a stuff around to get it here (presuming you are in Hervey Bay).

Does anyone know how much would it cost to get a hard lid repainted? not having much luck sourcing a Gunmetal one...thinking about just picking up any old colour and fixing it up to match.

Mate only around $100-$200 if you know someone in the profession - cost me $200 to paint a canopy!

damaged, if you like, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my brother's spray painting workshop details - I'll make sure he'll give you a good price - he is only on the central coast (west gosford).
