Triton one of the finalists Overlander 4x4OTY

Postby 4wd26 on Thu Jan 08, 2009 7:00 am

Triton was one of 6 finalists in the Overlander Magazine 4x4 of the Year award.

The testing took place late last year with the 6 finalists touring the Victorian High Country and some interesting results.

Overlander's 6 finalist vehicles were -
Suzuki Grand Vitara DDiS
Jeep Cherokee Sport CRD
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited CRD with off road pack
Mitsubishi Triton GLX/R DiD
Mitsubishi NT Pajero GLS DID
Lexus LX570

http://forums.overlander.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=58976&highlight=

Will be interesting.
The triton was the super select update model.

Cheers

What's your money on?

It's hard in these tests as the vehicles differ so much in cost etc but I reckon the Paj will walk it in.

Anyone????
I hate to advocate drugs, sex, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me.

BUT I hope the Triton has a good showing.

my guess:

1. Mitsubishi NT Pajero GLS DID
2. Lexus LX570 (despite it's rediculous price!!)
3. Suzuki Grand Vitara DDiS
4. Mitsubishi Triton GLX/R DiD (only because it is a ute, and not a wagon - i would have thought this would matter)
5. Jeep Wrangler Unlimited CRD with off road pack
6. Jeep Cherokee Sport CRD

the fact that two Jeep's made the shortlist says a lot (or a little) about the rest below them who didn't make the cut..

Results have been made available

(with points out of 300) -

1st - Pajero GLS DiD (243)
2nd - Grand Vitara DDis (240)
3rd - Wrangler Unlimited CRD with off road pack (219)
4th - LX570 Sports Luxury (215)
5th - Triton GLX-R Did (213)
6th - Cherokee Sport CRD (186)

For the Pajero:

Best points - on-road dynamics, engine performance, value
Worst points - "nothing worth mentioning"

Looks like 2 vehicles out in front and not much between the next few (Triton just missing out) with the cherokee failing?

These results were released as soon as anounced at the overlander award lunch yesterday.

Nothing in writing yet- keep an eye out at the newsagents.

overlander and 4x4 aust are very slack in there website updates.

I'll try and scan a copy when its released, have done this before in a ute review (check out articles in my profile)

I got my congratulation letter in the mail today for having the highest awarded Dual Cab 4x4 in the "Overlander 4wd of the Year Award", it stated to expect another year of turned up noses from the square brigade HiLux, Navara, Rodeo and Ford/Mazda owners for the next 12 months.

Gotta milk it while we can :)

Lol, square brigade... Is that a refence to the boxy shape of the Nav, Rod & Ford Mazda?
MMAL sent it is my guess.

I was after my 69th post so I had to come up with something to make it memorable.

I sneaked a pick at the article at the newsagents today without buying the mag, they say ...."Triton is now the NEW benchmark for others to follow"...or something close to those lines.

Cool when you consider $38K for GLX-R 08 and $31K for a VR 08 as per current ads.
