33x10.5x16 Simex JT2

Anybody fitted any 34" tyres to a lifted Triton. Looking to get some 34x10.5x16 Simex jungle Trekker 2's on +15 offset rims and want to know what I might encounter.
These would be equivalent to 265/85/16's. Might even go 34x11.5x16 which is 285/80/16 :D

I don't know but I think maybe valerio or stefanos.... someone outside aus... Either had 34's fitted or a mate did??

I am running 33" x 11.50 R18 on a 8.5" width rim +30 offset and no rubbing but it only misses by 1 or 2mm. Hope that gives you a bit of an idea.

I have the same rim offset and the same question. :oops:

Had a real good look around, I believe the front should be fine- take off the front mudguard and add rubber (or trim)

The rear- I have a question for ultimate.
I believe you need a tailshaft spacer and the leaves set properly with this tyre size in mind- if you don't want to limit up travel. I say this as I have seen rub marks on the front of the tub guards on compression on highly articulating tritons with 32" tyres.

Both minor issues- but something to consider.

mind you I was looking at 850mm diameter tyres these are a littl larger again- and your predicted widths don't agree with those posted in the link 282mm for 10.5 width 292mm for the 11.5- sit outside the GLXr flares (and the flares take up room ;)

I believe that the 10.5 actually refers to the sidewall height and not the tread width :oops: .Should do more research before posting anything :roll:

Hankook rate these tyres as 35x12.5.17
There website says they are 35" dia with a tread width of 9.7" or 246mm. He is running a +25mm offset

He reakons he has only minor rubbing

Maybe the smaller 33x10.5x16 would be better 33.7" dia or 857mm, 291mm wide. Althought the guys running 285/75/16mm tyres report rubbing on the mudflaps.Hopefully the different offset would alleviate that.

Are you getting crawler gears as well mate? Will be tuff as, but I'm a bit concerned with lost power and potential drive train strain?

Not trying to derail the thread, but you may get better off road performance cheaper and more permanently with a front diff mod?

Would love to see them on the truck though 8-)

The tailshaft spacer and leaf pack aren't a problem. They are quite a big tyre though so you will probably get a bit of scrubbing even with a larger lift. If you increase the bump stop size, than you will limit the uptravel and reduce a lot of scrubbing. I had to do this on my prado even with 31s and didn't lose any noticeable flex.

Alternatively you could look at a small tub lift.

I'm more than interested in playing around with a Triton on 34's. Let me know if you get them fitted and we will book in for a couple of days to do R&D ;)

ok soo,

i am running 255/85/16 maxxis bighorn on 16x7 +28 offset (i think) which is close to factory. I had been looking into getting 34s or 35s for play tyres but decided against it.

Now my tyres MEASURE 840mm OD which is 33.3, i also have a lift of 65mm in the front, i have almost no rubbing at all (with flares still on) BUT i believe you could only go a maximum of 860mm OD without major scrubbing even with removing the flares. Also i would avoid the wider tyres as it will make matters worse. Currently with my tyres just before full lock there is only a few mm to the mudflap, so removing it would give you another approx 10mm (hence the 860mm i believe). I also have a bigger lift in the front than most and i reckon it is too high for the front end, it rides like shit and has no travel. So taking that into account will also make matters worse. If you had a body lift it wouldnt be a problem.

So what im getting at is dont get fooled by the sizes 33",34", 35". You need to know the actual measured size. Some of them are hugely different.

giancarlo93 on here who has the '35s' which are 315/70/17 actually measure 850mm OD as i have previously asked him. I also used to have a set of 34" superswampers that measured 34". See the link http://www.widetread.net.au/4x4_simex_1.html to the simex tyre sizes. The stated sizes are bigger than most other brands. Their 32x9.5x15 measures 33.4" or 849mm OD which is the same as giancarlo93.

So to sum it up, find your self a tyre that is about 860mm OD and i would try and go 10.5 wide if possible rather than 11.5 or 12.5

it is painfully obvious why mine rub and others don't.

i had my tub located as far rearward as possible due to canopy issues.

This is why mine were rubbing the front of the rear mudguard and others were not.

not sure where my brain was at that time. :oops: :oops:

Drive train stress, Issue Yes but not a major one I hope
Front Locker, You can stick that, looking at playing with the electronics to enable traction control when diff lock engaged. Dual locked nearly :ugeek:

Have already done a small 10mm tub lift to try and stop the canopy belting the cab roof. Didn't work :(

snow- mine rubbed on the coffs weekend and I know of at least one other- all on 32".

I run standard rear springs- so have a fair amount of flex- so mindful of increasing diameter.

UAV- I believe the perfect size is around 850- to 860, I like the 32" centerpeeds (measure 849mm) but they don't have the load rating to meet the requirements of the triton.

So looking at toyo 255/85/16- imported form the states measures 33.5" but cost a bomb.

the BFG km2's in a 255/85/16 are real cheap (nearly $70/ tyre compared to the above) but measure a bit smaller.

Is the little bit extra important- yep check my skid marks in the coffs vids ;) :lol:

Reason for wanting these type of tyres is not a posse factor or anything but their sticky nature. Watched vehicles two weekends ago basically sticking to rocks wereas i slipped and slid all over them. For the price of them I wouldn't go a 32 or 33" as that is what i already have with my STT's. I also want to save the STT's for a big trip my missus and i are planning soon through the Kimberleys, Kakadu and the Cape.
So upsizing is the way to go. I do a lot of rock work in my 4WDing so the larger the better.

Brendon, is there anything I can do with the rear springs to stop scrubbing on the rear. Cheap fix would be to change out the rear hangers to extended ones. Yeah I no, the tyres will be illegal anyay, but this will increase the shudder a fair bit.
Hopefully the front will be trimming only

I would look more at limiting the uptravel through the shock or bumpstop. As you know I don't recommend the extended shackles and will find a way to do it with out them :lol:

Are you saying that these tyres on +15 rims will foul the flares or guard. Kwijibo runs a 305 tyre on a 0 offset rim and he only mentioned rubbing on the mud flap. His Claws are a 33.5 though. I think Johnno runs a 285/75/16 on a 0 offset rim as well

I'm only surmising from what I have seen on my vehicle, homers and reading.
I removed the mudflaps completely and also the low hanging ARB washer bottle guards for the coffs trip- no rubbing anywhere with brand new 235/85/16.

Homer with zero offset rims and 32" tyres rubs on the mudflap- near touches just driving on full lock.

I'm not sure of the guard/ flares as that was something I was just saying out loud- would like to stay in the flares myself as its just easier- both homer and Kwijibo run the x rok bar so a bit hard to see what happens at the front.
