Penrite HPR Diesel 5 engine oil prices

Postby Longranger1 on Mon May 28, 2012 6:31 pm

I was shopping around for some HPR 5 Diesel engine oil today and was blown away by the price differences.

Burson's was the stand out in the rip-off stakes at nearly $105 and that was their trade price and Repco was just under $90 for the same 10l container.

I have bought it for around $80 at an old fashioned 4wd joint but they were out of stock (no surprises there  ).

What are people paying for this brew? Might swing over to Delo 400 which is way cheaper at the Caltex depot.

I do like this brew though.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

Supercheap Auto website has HPR5 @ $84.50 (save $7.45)
So there you go.....about $90 RRP :?

Probably not worth switching to save a couple of dollars is it??

Last time I bought it, it was about $75... That was a while ago though.

I now run the delo400 as the 20L drums can be had for a reasonable price.

Repco have 10l on special at $72. Now I've just got to work out how to do an oil & filter change. The vehicle is a 2011 GLR. It's just had it's 1500k service which didn't do any oil changes. So I thought I better do an oil change rather than drive to Sydney next week with coming up for 2 year old oil in it. I bought an original Mitsubishi filter for an extortionate $54. & after doing a lot of reading here decided to go with the Penrite HPR diesel 5 (5W - 40 - extra 10 woohoo!) also got a 106n Fumitomo to put on as well....,the car engine is running & warming up as I type, wish me luck...& a Happy New Year to all. It's been a great pleasure to find & read this site.

I ran the Delo 400 in my landcruiser (1HZ diesel) for 350,000K, changed the oil every 5,000K and after nearly ten years the engine was as good as the day I bought it :D Very good oil in my opinion.

Now I run the Penrite HPR 5 full synthetic, petrol but :D

Hi Snowman The car was a 2011 display model only had 40k's on it when I bought it about 2 months ago from Bendigo at a bargain driveaway price. I wanted a new hilux SR5 extra cab but a 5/6 month or longer waiting period plus the over the top price swung me this way.

Hi Salt I ran DELO 400 in a Ford Courier for 6 years no problem, a very very good oil indeed. Lot of big trucking fleets use it. Did you notice the Caltex web site recommends Havoline for the Triton?
As for the oil change so far I notice the engine immediately on start up was much quieter.

Best to stick with genuine to maintain warranty and avoid arguments. You can pick them up a bit cheaper on ebay if you want to buy in bulk. Some dealers will also discount if you buy a few at once from the parts section.

The 106n Fumoto is an oil drain valve with a tap on it. Saves you undoing the sump plug and replacing the washer all the time. Makes an oil change much more tidy - no spillages, no oil on your hands, no using an oil catch tray - drain straight into a container using a short hose. Have a look here: http://fumoto.com.au/sizes.php

Thanks heaps Cowboy, i think you are right in terms of saving arguements and the fact that the factory will find any reason not to warranty something. I will jump on EBay and see what i can find.
I like that idea of an oil drain tap as well, deffinately something to look into. Thanks again

The F106N is for the 2.5HP.

M14 x 1.5mm thread.

I'm fond of the 'N' version (ie nipples) :o
