ML Inner shaft popped out

Postby vinrich on Sat Nov 07, 2020 2:49 pm

Hi, was relacing the CV on the driver's side in an ML and when removing the CV the inner shaft also popped out. it does not want to slide back in and didn't want to force it incase i damaged something. From reading,I understand that there is a circlip that holds the shaft in however not too sure how this works. can the circlip be placed onto the axle then inserted or do i need to put the shaft in then put on the circlip, the workshop manual didn't provide any explanation.

Just give it a good quick shove, you might have to try a few time but she will eventually go.

Haha, yep thats usually the way it goes. Glad you got it sorted.

The passo side cv is different, has shaft all in one and so you have to deal with a circlip no matter what. It can sometimes be a real challenge removing the shaft, especially when you're on the side of a muddy track. I find the aftermarket cv tend to be much harder to release than the factory cv's.
