VALVE ADJUSTMENT AT 90,000 KMS?

I have searched the other areas but can't find answer I am looking for!

Car went in for major service (it is out of warranty so no more stealer visits). I went to a local mechanic with over 30 years experience and seemed really genuine. I told him I wanted everything done that Mitsubishi would do for the 90k, including the Valve clearance/adjustment.

When I picked truck up the Invocie was only $450 so I questioned what he had done, everything apart from valve clearance.
He said no knocking etc so didn't need adjustment and basically saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

So my question is..."should the clearance/adjustment be done regardless"?

I want to do what is right for the truck as don't want any problems further down the line (bearing in mind last time Mitsubishi did the clearance they damaged something and I lost a tank of fuel the next day). I will be annoyed if I now have to pay 4 hours labour elsewhere to get this done.

Yeah from memory Mitsubishi say valve clearances are supposed to be done every 30 or 45k. Athough most mechanics I've spoken to say it's not really necessary after your first adjustment... just evey 70k - 80k once you're out of warranty.

Also the checks can't be made by listening.
The only way to do the valve clearance is by physically measuring with feeler gauges.

I've only had it done twice on mine and its nearly done a 150k in total... both times I've had it done by a dealer and both times they stuffed it up, leaking fuel rail the first time and a leaking injector seal for the second.

Thanks. I think I need to get mine done but won't go to my local dealer as they also messed mine up, need a reliable mechanic in Sydney area that can do the check properly.

I had an electrical SNAFU today and I can't find a related thread. Seems my interior light blew a fuse and took out my MMCS and trip computer. Anybody aware of a thread that mentions this please?

It's come up a few times, but not in a specific thread that I can recall. There is an inter-relationship between interior lights, trip computer and dash lights and this can also be tied into a problem with the rear/tail lights. I believe that the common factor is that they're all connected to the ETACS.

Bad egg smells are usually from the battery or exhaust......But I think the exhaust one is petrol related.

Have you popped your hood and had a sniff of your battery?

Hey guys,

I am in the process of changing out gears in my diffs to bring ratios back to a semi normal state. The current ratios are 3.917 and I am hoping to swap them out for the ML 4.3 centres.

I am struggling to work out the size of the front diff on my 2012 MN Triton.

I believe it should be one of the following
IFS, 28 spline, 8.00" RG
IFS, 28 spline, 7.25" RG
IFS, 25 spline, 7.25" RG

There is a stamp on the bottom of the diff "MR580659" and a sticker on the front "055" "12/01/12" "N4-006 056" "3.917"

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers Ben

Same as the rear, 3.917, it's stamped on your front diff.

Wouldn't happen to know the " size of the ring gear?

8" would be good :D

Hi All,

First post. Did a search for engine noise etc no luck or i couldnt find it. Way of background. Bought a second hand 2012 mn glr triton 2.5 diesel. Auto 4 speed from denlo vw at parramatta
Less than 6months old. Due for service last week friday. Engine started making a whinning clunking noise on the way to work on tuesday last week. Noise was loud then became quieter like in video. Pulled over called roadside assist got it towed. Subura who service jap models could not diagnose issue (thurs) have sent it to mitsubishi (today) pressume in parra. So for an entire week no car with no explenations. I always find forums are full of knowledge. Was previously a holden v6 and v8 petrol driver. First diesel vehicle. I have linked video. I hope someone can help. https://youtu.be/ETLxKxjd_B4

Had a search under a few search terms, but can only find 'specialist' mods or wiring for trailer brakes or hardcore stuff!...
My MN Triton ARB rear bar trailer plug has lost power.

It's not the trailer wiring, as I've tested it on 2 trailers and my bike rack light board that were all functioning on other vehicles...

Wires in the plug itself are connected
fuse under bonnet is in tact
I've done a 'power probe' test clipped into the negative, with no response to any of the sockets...

Where would I look next? are there other relays, fuses or alike that can fail along the way?

If they've used the Hayman Reese type controller then you you won't get any sense from just probing the sockets with a multimeter. The system has to sense a load on the circuit.
