Triton VS Hilux gearbox

Postby GLX-RSilver on Fri Apr 25, 2008 9:50 am

Anyone know whether its true that the triton and hilux share the same gearbox as 4wd action states?
Does that mean the transfer cases are the same? if so does anyone know whether the hilux low range gears will fit into the triton transfer case?

There are already low range reduction gears available for the Tritons.
You only have to know where to look and who to ask.

Triton VS Hilux gearbox

They share the same manual gearbox but your 1st gear is lower than the Hilux. Otherwise all the ratios are the same. Wish the lux had a lower 1st gear it is too tall when you fit larger tyres. I dont know about the transfer case though.

Triton VS Hilux gearbox

I think you'll find the lastest Triton, has exactly the same transfer case gearing as a 1981 L200 4Wd (anyone else here remember them - had 14" wheels on them........!!??). Transfer case is differant to latest Hilux, given the Mitsi one does'nt whine like a banshee in low ratio for a start.......(plus Lux has lower gearing in low box.....)
Tip # 1 - Avoid stress & grief & low resale values with vehicles - do it once - do it right, buy a HILUX!!

It seems as though the manual boxes are different. Had a a look at Sapients on the Merricumbene trip an the case was completely different to my hilux gearbox. The Automatics could be the same though?
I was lead to believe the same GLXR, read it somewhere in that article in 07 in the best ute of the year (4wd action) where the Navara won. :? :?

The hilux and triton, do not share the same gearbox.
the automatic is very different, even luxs transmission a much more prone to braking then the Tritons,
its rather the manual is a little similar.

that is why hilux can change to 1jz gte supra engine gearbox very easy, as mostly everything is the same. even the same clutch size can be used, yet also the triton manuals can do this swap more to, but with a little more difficulty.

for triton, i am actually concidering putting the 1jz gte gearbox auto, in my triton. autos are alot cheaper then manuals, and alot of parts are still readily avaible, plus they are much stronger then the triton or Lux gearbox in manual or auto form.

The tritons gearbox is closer to the Rb spec transmission, then the Jz series.

Oooo I'd love to have some of those reduction gears...love my Triton, but definitely a bit of a pretender low range in 'em unfortunately...why do that do that?

I'm used to the low range in the old MK - got me everywhere I wanted to go but took some careful clutch work sometimes... By comparison, the ML low range is like rock crawlers to me...
