Rattle in Engine

Postby Mongrel on Fri May 02, 2008 2:05 am

Hey All,

I have just found this forum and have to say is a good source of info for my truck!!

I have a 2007 GLX-R with 30K on the clock - But at about 5K it developed a rattle somewhere in the lower part of the engine that is only present when it warms up.

When I brought this to the attention of the dealer they advised me to let it go and in their words "See what happens". I am not happy with that and would like to know if anyone else has had this issue.

ALSO... My Aircon has died twice since getting the truck. The last time they said the could not find anything wrong and simply re-gassed. Now they are going to try again and find out what the story is.

ALSO... My rear door does not line up either. The dealer has tried everything to get it to close properly, but it still sits proud!

ALSO... I had the windscreen crack from a Chassis twist.!

ALSO.... I have the squeaky rear shocks!

Does it get better?? It seems there is a lot wrong with my truck, and I am a little unhappy I must say.

Any info you can supply would be great.

Cheers
-J

Rattle in Engine

There is a heap of info on this site about the "The Rattle",

Mostly we get it around 2000 revs under light acceleration. There is a fix out for this but limited success, reduces the rattle but
still there.

This link lists the fixes

http://www.newtriton.net/index.php?view=article&item=12&id=

They do make a fair bit of noise on start up from cold but that normally disappears quickly.

The Sqeak is a known problem and Mitsubishi has a fix out for it, although some report that the squeak returns.

Hey Mongrel was interested to hear of your cracked windscreen as mine cracked last week also and for no real apparent reason. Had me intrigued and I wondered whether it could be attributed to chasis twist eh.

Thanks for the info guys. Mine is a Petrol and has it at idle. As soon as I put my foot on the gas it instantly goes away. It sounds like ball bearings in a tin can!!

The Windscreen was replaced by MMAL as they had another one that cracked getting it off the truck!!! And wouldn't you know it, I got hit by a stone 3 weeks later and cracked it again! GRR!!

I will go have a look at the links provided, but I am not sure if this the same rattle.

Cheers

The only one that will apply to you is the fix for the squeaking springs.

Petrol motor shouldn't rattle, sounds like main bearing rattle to me.

Check the two bash plates are secured tight. If one of the bolts was not done up tight after a service it would rattle at a given harmonic of an rpm value. Or it could be stuffed!

Ghilly, there is a ECU reflash that should curb that issue. I get less clatter now. Your issue sounds like mine where there is a loud clatter on 'low load' conditions, i.e. 80km an hour and back off and on the throttle and it should come and go.

thanks alot
i am in the uk but my triton is a thai import 3.2 (over here they only sell the 2.5 as a L200).
i am going to book it in to my main dealer some time next week and see what they can do.
i hope they can get the reflash for imports.
the noise is much louder when its cold and my truck takes 20 - 25 minutes to warm to a
normal temperature,is this normal or do you think i might have a thermostat problem also ?
i make a lot of short journeys and always seem to be driving it at its noisiest ,do you think
theres anything i can do to make it warm up quicker.
thanks again for your help

you can purchase a piggieback system which controlls the injection timing/duration and its very smooth, with minimal clatter at idel speeds!
this is for the Thai verisons!!
and are compatable with the imported units to.
the only way to make it warm up quicker, is when switching it on wait for 2-5mintues and slightly rev it constantly from 1000-2000rpm after a few mintues warming up,

We have a fundamental problem here as we never see the temps you'd see in the UK. Some others in the colder, higher parts of Oz might be able to help out. Start a new thread and ask the question, I'm sure someone will help you out. When I leave in the morning it's rarely below 15C, and it doesn't take long at all to warm up.

I would, I think some of the V6s had an issue with bearings.

You should be able to find some posts on this site.

Is there a hotfix? I also have the issue but the dealer's not interested. I had the machine in for the 75000 service yesterday and asked for a 20W50 oil, but hey no surprises. they never put that in only the stock 15w40... I got 25000 left on factory warranty and would obvoiusly like to have it sorted, so the more dope, the better...

I took my thai 3.2gls to the english mitsubishi dealer today for the software update that stops injector rattle.
He said he knows of the injector knock update but there computer will not comunicate with my ecu as its a thai
model and is different in the uk. He is the second person to tell me this so far and has no idea how to load the new software on my triton. I cant live with this loud rattle much longer. I might try a remap at a local tuning company as im sure they can alter the injection timing.
If things dont change they will stay as they are.
