No idea mate but I reckon if it was me I'd risk it. Still NFI though.

I'd be asking what brand the rotors are first before laying down my coin.

Replace front brake pads

Postby Laker1969 on Fri Sep 04, 2015 3:15 pm

Gonna do this myself. What pads do people reccommend? The chap who just did my 90k service quoted me $325 fitted. That's crazy.

Recommended brake pads

Postby Laker1969 on Mon Sep 07, 2015 12:29 pm

Need to replace the front pads. 2010 mn 4wd manual

I can get bendix from a mate. They have 2 options 4wd specific or heavy duty - mates rates same price.

I don't tow much, my boat about once a week and it has inertia brakes and my van about 5 times a year and it has electric brakes.

Which one? Others?

The 4wd are no where near as harsh on the discs, I would go for them

Watch out for the drilled rotors if your planning on taking it off road. The mud and dust get stuck in the holes and chew the pads pretty quickly. Great rotor if you are road based though

front rotors and pads

Postby 08glxr on Tue Mar 08, 2016 10:45 pm

Hi all
I Have read through a few posts and am now even more confused regarding front rotors and pads.
I need to replace the standard rotors and pads due to pulsating braking and what appears to be a crack in the surface of one rotor. Question is about drilled/slotted rotors vs normal.
I dont do river crossings, just the occasional beach run and a fair bit of towing. Would i be better to just get standard rotors or would i notice improved braking with drilled/slotted or slooted rotors and good pads.

Cheers

Gday 08glxr,

From what I have read stay away from drilled rotors. The holes are too easily filled with dirt/sand/mud/stones and will destroy your pads very quickly.

I have had on, and yesterday replaced them again, a set of DBA 4000 series T3 slotted rotors. These are great discs and a vast improvement from standard. Especially if you are towing heaps these will help you and be better in the long run.

I think the T2s are fairly similar as well.

Standard rotors work well. Drilled rotors improve out gassing so theoretically give you more bite and a better pedal feel.
Slotted rotors are used to wipe clean the pad surface of mud and debris.

You can choose what suits depending on your requirements.

I got mine from Ultimate Suspension - forum sponsor. Last time I looked there were some ebay sellers as well, although you'd want to be sure you were buying from someone reputable for something like that.

I got 72k out of the original rotors, until the rotor warpage started to affect the stopping. Probably could have got another 20k at least out of the pads.

I just fitted RDA slotted/dimpled rotors and RDA pads. I have had very good experienced with RDA in the past, and these were no exception. They bed in quickly, and provide a noticeable improvement over standard. I've never had a problem with mud blocking the slots/dimples, but if I did, I would just hit them with the Gerni after they had cooled out.

Yeah I recently changed my original rotors and drums with RDA. Very happy with them so far... I went with the non-ventilated standard rotors as I've never had problem with stopping on my standard brakes.

I don't really see the need for ventilated unless I was racing or towing un-braked trailers in the hills. I've driven other Tritons that have the top of the line DBA slotted rotors and they definitely don't stop any better than mine.

However I do believe in installing braided brake lines. They certainly made a noticeable difference to how mine pulls up. And yeah I got them supplied and fitted by Ultimate at the same time they did my suspension upgrade.

You are spot on with the unbraked trailer, I regularly go up and down Bulli Pass, Mt Ousley and Macquarie Pass. You can't rely on gearing alone to slow you enough on these descents. They definitely fade less in this situation. Other than this scenario, there is no real advantage over the stockies.
