Tech article - How to remove the grille inserts - ML Triton

I thought it might be handy if anyone needed to know how to remove the grille inserts to gain access for routing wiring or aerial cables, although it's pretty straightforward...

1. Remove the two black expanding clips from the top of the grille insert (circled in red). Just prise out slightly the centre plug of this clip to release it, and pull each one out.

2. With your finger or an angled tool (like an allen-key head) pull upwards on the 4 inside tabs to release them from the slots in the bumper section (circled in yellow)

3. Gently pull outwards and upwards to remove the insert - in the bottom corner near the headlight is a final clip that slides from a slot on the insert. Be careful not to angle the grille insert too far or this might break (circled in purple)

4. Hopefully you're done!!

Both sides are removed the same way. To put it back on is basically a reverse of the above, taking care not to force any of the tabs or the slot when you're doing it.

Cheers!

Good article mate. I read it when doing mine when it almost felt like I was going to break it.

One thing I found was it took more than a gentle tug.
More like quite a firm pull.
Some on here (not mentioning any names) would have no problem with the firm pull judging by the description of the condition of their knobs. :P

haha good one Homer.

I'll be converting all my tech articles to forum topics eventually - the old tech articles from the original forum are a little hard to find, and can't be edited; Dave said it was best to move them onto the forum 8-)

Yes I've noticed them coming up.

A lot of invaluable information among them.
I know as soon as I get to fiddly bits - particularly internal, I get a little nervous when they start to bend and flex and creak.

Nice article Subi, in my case, you missed out the swear at the crappy push lock clips when they break.

Heya folks
I can't access the slots indicated in yellow circles in the GLX-R grill on my vehicle. It's a totally different shape/style to that above.
Anyone else have a suggestion on getting to them? Can you slip something between the grill and front panel?
Thanks
Scotty
