Fixed Uncomfortable Driver Seat

Fixed Uncomfortable Driver Seat

Postby scubapro on Sat Mar 14, 2009 10:57 am

Guys I just had my seat fixed by my local upholsterer. He installed an inlatable lumbar support for the back & added additional foam for the bottom.

Now I have proper back support & the bottom has a softer ride. All $200-00. I also saw the seat stripped down it is quite complicated if you were thinking of replacing the standrad seat with an after market one.

Sounds good Scuba...did he also do anything about the poor thigh support or was that covered with extra foam? Are the inflatable lumber supports readily available to upholsterers?

I do not have a problem with the thigh support but I am sure he could have done something about it if I had. Yes the lumbar supports should be readily available to upholsterers. This guy does all the NRMA fleet cars.

He is located in Granville in Sydney if any of the Sydney guys are interested.

sorry subi it has a little bulge where the lunbar support is but apart from that it looks like the original. But I am now also sitting higher as the extra padding for the bottom has raised the height, great fix without having to stuff aroubd with spacers etc etc

Looking into this myself at the moment.
I have tried some memory foam under the seat cover and have noticed a difference.
I can tell the spacers under the front would help a lot but I am concerned about the legal side of things.

I've lifted my seat (ml) about 45mm at the front and 20mm at the rear and now is much better for sitting position.

The next thing I'd like to do is the lumber area and a 12mm layer of softer foam rubber over the seat's internals.

A consequence of the seat lift will also require a mirror lift, ie closer to the roof.

Just double checking you know that the mirror is adjustable about an inch or so higher? I didn't notice for the first couple of years I had the car and wished it was higher.

For anyone considering buying a new Triton I think the later models have good seats. Mine is s 2015 MN and I regularly drive between 350 and 500k in a day and I have no complaints about the seats.

I thought the seats in my 2015 MN were comfortable too but when you do 1100km the first day, 1100kms the next and 1100kms planned for tomorrow neither of us are looking forward to tomorrow'so trip. They are the worst seats SWIMBO and I have sat in. We'll be buying some foam in Harvey bay for the return trip and either having the seats remanufactured like scubapro or replacing them with something better. Has anyone swapped theirs out with pajero units?
