Coopers St maxx tyres

Postby Jimmyk on Sun Dec 18, 2011 5:23 pm

Gday guys this is my first post so if i mess it up sorry.
I have a 2011 MN Triton and i was going to purchase some st maxx tyres 245/75r16
Just wondering has anyone got these or should i go the STT instead? i would probably
just use the tyres on 4wd days only and use the standard ones during the week.

Cheers

If you're going to use them as a second set, then go the STT's in a 265/75R16. That size will fit within the guards without scrubbing on anything, and still provide ample footprint and traction compared to the 245/70's. Also, have a read through the tyre comparison thread here. It's a good comparo between tyre brands and sizes that people are running on their own vehicles, and some have even put the price up so you know whether or not you're getting a good deal ;)

See the build up of my old Triton here.

I have the ST Maxx and am now regretting them... Not that they are a bad tire at all, they are actually very good on both dry and wet road, dirt they are good and i have not had them in the mud yet but by the looks of things they will do alright for a AT.

The reason i am regretting them is my fuel has gone up slightly which is not that bad but i wanted something bigger and more aggressive than the HT so i could get it off the black top without having to worry about grip while also keeping the ride nice for the road.

If i had my time again i would smash a set of muddies on my steelies as a second set of rims for the play and keep the HT on the factory alloys.

Whatever the tyre you need 245's to keep fuel economy in tact, especially if you have an auto, manuals do fair better with larger tyre sizes.

I have the STT's in a 245/70/17 and my fuel economy is worse than my D694's in 265/65/70.

I should have pointed that out as well my st MAXX are 265/75 16 as to my HT that were 245/65/17

And yes the torque convertor slips much easier now.

I have 245/75r16 still maxx and on mine.
Fuel economy went up by about .5 per hundred over ht tyres.
I like them. Couldn't be arsed changing tyres all the time so they were the best compromise!

COOPER ST MAXX PERFORMANCE

Postby alan j on Sat Feb 18, 2012 3:43 pm

just after some info from you guys that are running st maxx tyres.
Theyve been about for a little while now, how is the wear rate, and handling with higher kms on them?
Thinking of getting some 245/75/16s any advice appreciated.

 More you pay the better they are. If you do a lot of highway use, they are a higher maintenance tyre as they need to be rotated more often. ;) Otherwise surprisingly good all rounder with off road use in mind. They have very strong side walls 8-) .

I have them and love them, they have not let me down yet, :D (touch wood  )

I have done around 15,000kms on them, they have been to Lake Eyre, Vic High Country, and a couple of other 4wd trips and I'd buy them again. ;)

IMO they are a true A/T tyre as they will do everything.

I run LT 265/70 R17.

I used to have 2 sets, the H/Ts and BFG KM2s but got sick to death of changing them over.

They are louder than the H/Ts but quieter than the KM2s

I guess you could say I'm happy with them

I have the STT's but when these get low on rubber I will be getting the St Maxx. Everybody has an opinion on tires but I really love the sidewall armor that the these tires offer, not sure if any other brand has the same protection?

I had the st Maxx in 265/75/16 but didn't like them due to the harsh ride, noisy on road and high fuel usage, ended up swapping them for BFG At's and found these to be awesome for me. I spend most of the time on the black stuff so would only consider the St Maxx for a weekend tyre or for more off road milage.
