2nd had muddies brisbane where?

Postby krazed on Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:18 pm

Hi guys ,

Was just wondering if any of you guys know of a tyre shop with an extensive range of second hand muddies in brisbane ?

Why second hand ? Because i got a second set of rims for free and i am quite happy with the stocko tyres for the black stuff . I would be chasing some muddies around the 60/70% mark as i will only be using them once a month tops.

Cheers

Try fourby's at Moorooka.

they are one of the rare places that "trade" tyres in Brisbane.

might find someone that has swapped out to new or larger.

Understand where you're coming from but had you considered that muddies become no better than AT's once they wear down to 50%. You pay for 70% tread and actually only get 20% real life.

If you just want cheap tyres for an occasional play have a look on EBay. There used to be a mob in Brisbane who sell full remoulds for around $200. Some tread designs have up to 18mm of tread depth. Don't think I'd cross the Simpson with them but for local play use they'd be pretty good value. Can't find that place but here's the same tyres:

There are also things like this:

Mate, I did what you are thinking of doing and now after using my 60% tyres about 6 times Im going to go newbies. I know its $$ but 2nd hand tyres are crap. I paid $200-$300 for my play set and it was a waste. Tyres were good enough but like now for the 5th says:

Understand where you're coming from but had you considered that muddies become no better than AT's once they wear down to 50%. You pay for 70% tread and actually only get 20% real life.

Go newies I say ;)

While i agree with the sentiment to buy new ones... I disagree with your statement about 'no better than ATs''

It's the void between the tread blocks which makes the tyre self clearing, rather than just tread depth. A new AT will not outperform a 50% muddie (considering that a MT will often start with a greater tread depth anyways). Once the AT becomes a slick from bring unable to clear its tread, it won't matter how new it is. The bigger gaps between tread blocks will generally allow a MT to clear better, therefore offering superior traction to the now slick AT.

thanks for the replys guys. After abit of thought i think yous are right about the second handers might give em a miss . I have seen the insa ebay ones on a patrol last time i was at glasshouse and the look pretty cool. there is also a prado across from my work with the federals on and they look mint ! am still unsure what i'll do though. if i buy new muddies i'd wanna get my moneys worth and i'd prolly trade in my stockos and run them ft but at the same time i dont want the poor life span from the black stuff and the doughyness to go with it . Or do i go an A/t and be done with it. Ughh decisions decisions :?

2 sets of rims.....2 sets of tyres

HT/AT on factory mags for daily running and MT on steelies for play. Better onroad handling and more fun on the weekends ;) plus MT's will last you a very long time when used this way.
I'm not so good with the advice  ... Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment???

I was quoting nowfor the 5th

But I agree with Fridgie. Two sets, two terrains. Black and mud. Perfect ;)

X2 ;) When i originally purchased my Tri, I went with a set of AT's (as probably most people have) to save swapping tyres everytime you want to go offroad.........they didnt last anywhere near what they should have, so this time round, i have a set of All Terrains and a dedicated set of muddies for 4wding ;)

I guess it depends how much off road you do, if its only maybe 3 or 4 times a year, 2 sets is not worth your time or money, just get AT's :D But if heading out every other weekend, 2 sets is the way to go 8-)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

^^^^^matts is the one that has been talking like he just won the lotto. (what can I buy next).......

2 sets will work out cheaper in the long run.

but factor in the hoist, compressor, rattle gun and torque socket (as matts has or I wish  ) and it gets dearer.

actually I can change out the second set in around 30mins with a trolley jack and a "t" handled nut remover.
hard work though.

i just use a battery drill and a socket with the drill type 1/2" socket drive for the drill bit.

i use a bar to undo and tighten that last quarter turn though. Everyone has a battery drill so no real cost. Just put the drill on the highest ratchet setting (not the drill setting) and you will only need a quarter turn with the bar. always hand start the nuts though to avoid cross threading.

my eldest son loves helping as well (he is 11) and it is a great way to start teaching them how to do it including safely jacking etc. He is even starting to read the wear on the tyres and where to put them.

one of the best parts about not just the 4 wheeling but the car preparation and mods - the kids (well boys i guess) love it. :D :D
This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.
