Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Rib Tyres

Postby bazzashadow on Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:03 pm

I know that there are several mentions of these tyres in forums but none that I could find addressing it directly. I am thinking of getting some for my GLX-R in 265/70/R17. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences? If not what are other good AT tyres as I don't want muddies?

Get some Bridgestone Duelers, you'll never look back. Great handling in wet and dry both on sealed and unsealed roads, you get a great life out of them too. So far done 35k on mine and about 10k on dirt/rocks and havent had a puncture yet :? fingers crossed ;)

Had a set in 225/75 R16 on my GLX, only got 45, 000k out of them, and they chipped pretty badly. Only 1 puncture but from a roofing screw which would go through any tyre.
Ok manners on road but I wouldn"t buy them again.

I have had mine on for about 3,000 km now. Very happy with them on the black top, grips well in the wet. Haven't taken them off road yet  really deep tread, highly recommend them

Not sure about comparing them to Duellers :| one is an aggressive AT, almost muddie and the other is a road orientated AT.
Anyway, moving on......

Agree with the above, got similar Km's out of the first set on the Triton, now just running the 2nd set as a road set till they wear out with muddies as play tyres.

You won't get huge Km's out of such an aggressive and open tread pattern such as ATZ's on the blacktop. If you do some regular 4wding and don't want to change over to muddies all the time, they will suit you, even if you're only getting 45k out of them, you will be in front compared to buying road tyres and play tyres.

If its only occasional offroad, a less aggressive tread is the go. I have put BFG AT's on our Pajero on the recommendation of other members on this site, only done about 15k on them but still looking good so far ;)
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

I've had a set on my triton in 265/75/16 and my car is typically at 2.7t or heavier. I've done 20k on them now over the last 12 months and they still look relatively new. For me they handle better than the highway terrain tyres I had on previously, and have a hea of grip offroad until you get to sloppy mud.

They have the 80k guarantee just like coopers (owned and made by same company). I don't know if ill get to 80k on them, but was only really counting on getting to 50-60k which I think I will get easy unless they deteriorate quickly towards the end.

Pick your poison, they haven't failed me yet in the wet season ;) Mind you I would love to have some aggressive A/T for the weather up here 8-) Driving home in a monsoon sometimes requires the snorkel and speedos..

i reckon they are a great tyre especially in the 16inch size 265/75/16 as for some reason they are rated higher in that size than in any other, maybe its the optimimum size for sidewall/width % re strength.?

i love mine.

Took her out to Bribie Island today and with the tyres down at 18 psi there weren't any issues at all. Slightly noisier on the tarmac with a slight fuel consumption increase but as they have corrected my speedo not sure how accurate the old figures were. Slight loss of power as well. More noticeable taking off in first. However with the better looks and overall off road improvement they are well worth it. Hope to try some tracks in the next few weekends.

Hey Bazza,
Good D on the tyres. I have run the ATZ 4 ribs on the 17inch rim for 45000kms now and havent had any issues at all. I play in the Vic high country and did 5 weeks last september touring Cape York. Great traction all round and no chipping yet. Got me through Nolans brook. I estimate that i'll get at least another 20000kms out the this set. I rate them.

The 4rib is a great tyre. The post further up stating they had them in 225/75R16 would have been a 5rib as they don't make 4ribs in that size. They are a totally different animal. Just make sure you keep them rotated and they will serve you well.

Cheers BD

62k out of my Mickey Thompson ATZ's (265/70R17). They will definitely make it to 70k.

5 wheel rotation & balance every 10k. I'm still happy with my purchase.
