Single cab legal wheel and tyre sizes

Postby AWOL on Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:25 am

Hi all,
I have searched the forum over and struggling to find some info on tyre size as most threads are regarding GLXR double cabs etc. I have a GLX single cab chassis with alloy tray and looking to upsize the biscuit tires and 16x6 rims can anyone suggest a good size rim and offset for a mud tyre and tyre size that would fit without having to do a lift and keep it with in the legal bounds ?? Cheers

Does your glx come with factory flares? If so you can copy the same as the double cab legal size.;-)
If no flares then you'll probably be limited to around +30 offset with say a 245/75/16 tyre to keep it inside the wheel arch. Or you could get some flares and match the double cab max size.
Gearing is another factor to consider when going larger tyres as you could have the taller ratio diffs in the glx so this could sacrifice your drive ability if you carry heavy loads.;-)

Curiously, from a plethora of wheel and tyre threads I didn't come across one devoted to single cabs.

So this one is now the official single cab tyre and wheel reference. ;)

Post away and discuss, but keep on topic, please.

Offsets may be different, although I'd doubt it as the fronts are extremely close between single/double cabs (from memory, single cabs are slightly higher stock??) but legal size increase would be the same between all models depending on state. So, in qld, 50mm increase in diameter.

I may be wrong but I think from looking at the specs sheet the double cabs are slightly wider but I'm not sure if they are counting the flares as extra width as opposed to actual body single cab 1750 double cab 1800 ..

Legalities suggest anything that does not exceed the vehicle width ie sticking out wider than the body and does not touch scrape or have contact with any body part or chassis , and does not increase the ride height by more than 50 mm , that being either tires on their own or a combination of tires and lift ..
