Suspension mods/lift kits

Postby Austblue on Fri Nov 02, 2007 12:44 am

I'm about to make my first mod I think :o I know I know its all down hill from here but at least with the extra clearance it'll be a safer down hill ride!

So there's a lot floating around the various forums about different suspension lift kits and I thought since this is Triton Central this would be the best place to get all of the info compiled in the one thread.

This morning I rang Dobinsons Sydney and they priced me the medium duty kit for $1170 supply only. That's a 50mm kit with new struts all round, new coils and leaves, bushes and greasable shackles.

I also asked the guy to tell me why they were better than ironman since they seem like the direct competition with a similarly priced 50mm kit and he told me that Dob's gear is home made except for the european struts whereas IM are made in china. Now I haven't confirmed that yet so take it fwiw.

Here are the options that I know of:

Dobinsons
50mm $1170 supplied Good reviews

OME
40mm ~$1300 Good reviews

Ironman
50mm ~$1050 no review competitor says made in china

Toughdog
Not available yet?

Raw
40mm $2150 no review

Please keep in mind that some of this information is second hand and should be confirmed. I don't know anything about Ironman and would hate to cost them business based on a competitor's word.

If its possible I'll update this post with more info posted and gathered later.

Cheers.

I'm watching this and the 4WD monthly thread closely mate 8-)

FWIW I spoke with Tough-dog two days ago, all R&D is complete but due to a holdup with their supplier they don't expect to see their kits here before Christmas (more likely after).

Cheers

From what I was told the Raw shocks are only rebranded Gabriels so I wouldn't touch them if that's the case.

I spoke to a guy at Dobinsons this morning (rang the factory) and he confirmed the shocks are from europe and reckons that they are as good as bilsteins in quality but that
unlike the billy's they're non re buildable.

I think around $1400 for a 50mm lift (not 100% sure on price)

I have been quoted a number of different ways to go from Calmini 4in lift $4500 ,2in lift in body $1300 and Rancho shocks and sring spacers and extended hangers for 2in lift $1000 you just have remmember you cant go more than 2in lift because you are on the stoppers after that ,If you want more you have to change your upper control arms . I am still researching better ways I will keep every body posted

What is the part numbers for the Dobinsons?
I don't see the 2007 Triton in the catalogue, or am I in the wrong catalogue :-)

Other question, how does OME compare to IronMan?
Here in SA IronMan are not that popular, apparently the rear leave springs sag after 2 years ???

As I've posted above IM seem to be pretty ordinary but that's what I've read not experienced.

Sorry I don't see a part number either :(

I got the page from Dobinsons per email, but it's too large to upload. Info should be on page 59 of their catalog and the recommended item# are:
Linear Rate Raised Height 45mm lift (Pair): C43-188
4 + 2 Leaves, Medium Duty, Raised Height (45mm Lift): L43-015-R

I didn't know Calmini had released a kit for the Triton ?
I heard rumours they were looking at it for their export market (new Triton not released in the US) as it is very popular around the world.
Can you elaborate on this one ?

i have bought the spacers from snake racing for mine, but like a lot of things i have just havnt had the time to fit them yet. when i bought them i was told that if i wanna hold out a little bit longer for a lift kit, as snake racing will have a 4in lift kit available early next year.

I was looking at the spacers as well, but all they do is give you a bit more hight on standard springs. fit a bullbar, winch, dual batteries etc and it will still sag the standard springs. Im just going the complete suspension kit.

Out of all the ifs utes the ML has 1 of the best drive shaft angles so when lifted even 2" it is not a big issue for the cv's:)
