I had the occasional puff of blue smoke on the way back from the snow a week or so ago but nothing since. I reckon that means it's OK...?

I was wondering if anyone had noticed the little puff of smoke that came out of mine the morning we left camp on the Powerlines weekend? It didn't appear to be too blue and I put it down to the cold start - but then it hasn't done it before. It wasn't black so I wasn't too concerned.

Hi all.

The simple answer is no. Note even at night under load or up the beach and ready to stall in a higher gear. The only time I ever saw diesel smoke from mine was when we ran the Steinbauer with a special map to try and tune the rattle out...man was there some fuel smoke then.

The new common rail diesels are pretty clean though. It is unusual to see a Triton blow any diesel smoke, but if the economy is good and the truck goes ok, why worry?

My economy is up the proverbial! I get about 12s around town rather than the advertised 9.1. It isn't loaded up or (normally) given a workout. Next service is in 1000 kms so I'll have a chat then - maybe a few hotfixes will be applied!

I reckon it's the diesel quality (or lack thereof). I tried InterJect Diesel Additive 420 P (http://www.interject.com.au/additives/additives.htm) but although it initially appeared to help it didn't in the end. Got the info from here and thought I'd give it a burl and all I got for me efforts was a speeding ticket! There is talk of the valve hotfix helping fuel consumption (surging as well) but I'll believe that when I see it. :|

Have you guys noticed any difference in the different brands of diesel, performance or economy wise?

Not between Shell, BP, Caltex or the occasional Woolies fuel.

I've noticed a difference, I think (so many reflashes it is now hard to tell) between the cheaper fuels like Pacific Fuel and the likes of Caltex. The Caltex fuel does make mine run smoother with more response but it does not change the economy.

Some BP outlets in WA are stocking BP Ultimate diesel, not sure if it makes any difference in the Triton though...

Well i must say, with and without the chip mine Triton still blows alot of smoke! You can see it during the day, when you give it a gutfull. What can the possible causes be? Only done 8300kms...

Nope only on setting 11 or (B) lol...i assume it could be due to lack of air and small pissy ass exhaust!

i called in at a servo in the hunter and the only diesel was bio and i noticed a definite difference straight away A. Lack of Power B. Black smoke C. Noisy Rattle.
I have filled up now with about 4 full tanks of BP Diesel since and it seems to be the worst i have seen her shes due for service hope this fixes my issues.
dont touch the shit is my advice

B100 Bubba? If you've only run dino diesel and run neat B100, all the crap that's accumulted will get cleaned out all at once. Sounds like dodgy diesel full stop, Bio smokes less but has higher NOx emmision due to oxygen content.
