Mine has been playing up since the day I signed the contract. Doesn't matter how much money I throw at it it is still sluggish, and suffers from cold starts. Even when it gets warmed up, it still has trouble maintaining momentum.

In my current job I get to see lots of the overseas versions homer has mentioned, however can't bring my self to take for a test drive.

I will persist with my current rig and hope it comes good eventually, however the rear end is starting to sag, and the headlights have lost all adjustment and pointing at the road these days.

Just wish I could drive it more than once a month.

Head light up grade done, can be a distraction for on coming traffic at times
Rear still travelling ok but may need up grading down the line
I'm in constant negotiations with the dealer about the SCV

Having travelled a lot lately, thought I would put up some observations I have made on a lot of the overseas versions.

Singapore- local versions are hard to find as most are imported from the Philippines and Malaysia. The local models tend to have better workmanship than the imports

China - hard to find quality examples due to mass production

Taiwan - seems this is where the Chinese sent their problematic models a few decades ago and have never really got on top of quality control

Hong Kong - full of Chinese imports, however stock imported from Europe tend to be good quality

Thailand - quality varies greatly. A low Km rig tends to be preferable and come cheap. Just check the undercarriage for nicks and rust

Korea - all locally made and quality is generally exceptional, however trying hard to copy the western manufacturers which makes purchase difficult

Vietnam - examples manufactured in the south seem better than those from the north. Quality varies greatly, however not hard to get your hands on a reasonably new showroom condition model at an entry level price

Malaysia - local examples have been modelled on those from the Middle East so makes purchase difficult due to restrictions

Philippines - again, quality varies and seems to have been assembled quickly so lots of examples that need to be deregistered and sent for scrap.

USA - lots of local content, however imports from the south are starting to take over. A low mileage rig from the east or west coast tends to be preferable over those from the south, however the southern models will give years of trouble free motoring. Those from the north east tend to be problematic, and the mid west tends to be parked in the garages for 9 months of the yr which makes it difficult to peruse. Be wary of US made as they tend to get bigger with every new model produced.

LOL!
And then theres the scandinavian models.... often vary in size... however the ride is nearly always quite exceptional! Definitely recommend! However, longterm, I'll prob stick with my current rig... quite loyal, requires very little maintenance. Like those above, just requires the occasional SCV tuning. Would like to drive her a bit more often, but who doesn't, lol!

I've driven a Viet model years ago and other than the headlights be of poor manufacturing quality what was under the hood was fine. It was a fine young example of what can be found :D

I guess what I'm driving now will have to last a fair few years because the last one cost me an arm and a leg and I'll be still paying for the next 10 years

Get what you pay for don't you

Ahhhh.....so that explains your recent Vietnam trip.....your only looking into hybrid models and exhaust upgrades on all future rides :o

I've had a few trips to that region Ben

Suffice to say after significant research and many test drives I am completely convinced of the quality and performance of the vehicles in that area. Being a serious buyer V a window shopper makes a lot of difference as well  you don't get to experience the smoothness of ride or the quality and sheer brilliance of the lubrication system design etc when window shopping.

As I mentioned they are all really sports cars over there, so anyone chasing a wagon or family sized people mover could end up disappointed. But for sheer performance, sublime handling manners and value for money you would have to search far and wide to beat vehicles in that area

I'd liken it to a Ferrari or Porsche V a Nissan GTR Nismo. The Ferrari and Porsche at first glance have un comparable style, class and sex appeal, but on closer inspection don't really have that great a fitout or ergonomic options and lets face it...they cost more than most people could ever afford anyway so you are destined to just watch them go by.
The Nissan on the other hand will whip most of them around the Nurburging, sips the cheapest fuel in comparison, comes in at a moderately reasonable price and will still be lapping at the same frantic pace long after the other two have been towed away with breakdowns...

You know I've become a real car nut of late

Ok Mitsubishi wont replace the SCV under warranty and wanted $125/hr to fix it, as my car is now out of warranty!
I will look at 2T now and seeing if that will fix it, if that fails I will be ordering a new one of ebay.

Now stupid question; where is the SCV located???

Suction Control Valve

Postby mattz on Fri Feb 28, 2014 8:41 am

It's a bugger to get to and hard to see from the engine bay.
Passenger side......under the fuel rail
It's held in by two bolts with Allen key heads on them. You may be able to see one of them....just.

It's one of those touch and feel jobs. ;)
Good luck.

By that you mean if 2T doesn't free it up you will be visiting Alco and the mud runners for some assistance? :P
