As I said all along, the so called hi-spec is possibly only something substituted from another pump that's designed to flow more fuel in theory. I haven't had a chance to find out what else may fit yours as yet.
The factory item will do you fine, just keep the fuel clean.

If chipit dont get these things in stock for the future, I'll deal with it my self. Wont hurt to keep one of each in my box of mystery.

I bit the bullet, a couple of weeks ago and spent a few hundred dollars required to purchase a new SCV to try and fix an excess smoke problem I was having.

Before replacing it, I had mixed reports whether I needed an injector relearn or as its otherwise known a SQL (small quantity learn) (I think that's what it stands for  )
Some people said no......others said sometimes and others definitely.
So on there advice I whacked it in to see how it would go.

Luckily it was money well spent and fixed the smoke problem, reduced fuel consumption and it seems to be running fine. :D
It looks like I got away without having to get a SQL. :D

The interesting thing, when I removed the SCV was the o-ring on the SCV appeared a little perished or damaged. :o which has got me wondering if the o-ring was replaced would it be ok?
I'll chase up an o-ring and might even swap it back over when I get a chance and see what happens.

Did you get a genuine one from Mitsubishi or one of the aftermarket (denso?) options?

I got an aftermarket one.
I'm lead to believe its the same as the Mitsubishi ones.......which is Denso anyway.
SEJ GLX-R wrote:Didn't you get a new SCV when you had the injector trouble?

It was replaced before the injectors......probably 12-18 months before.

I've had a closer look at the SCV and it looks like there are wear/rub marks on it too. Click to view larger picture
They are on both sides, top and bottom, as its installed

Well headin to work this morning me Triton started to surge (sort of a 1 sec cycle and fairly smooth) at 1900 - 2100 rpm.......... my mind went numb and all sorts of bad thoughts rolled through my banana filled brain, so I rolled into my local Mitsi service center and prayed it wasn't bad..They got it into the shop ASAP and......

The net result was a sticky SCV and poor OEM filter, the shop to their credit fitted a new SCV and a finer aftermarket filter and whammo the "Big Blue Box" (you will need to ask me kids about the name) was running like a dream again..

The lead mechanic (he owns a 2010 Triton) said this is common and will happen again due to the aussie fuel, I asked him about a second filter and he indicated that this wont really fix this issue and if fitting one get one with a pump...So problem solved and some interestin info to chew over.

I know a few on here that will disagree on what your mechanic said about the secondary filter..:-? The best insurance on your fuel system is a secondary filter! Make sure its a 2micron filter after the factory filter. ;-). Already some good threads on this if you have a search.;)

Yup agree, I think he was referring to the Valve issue, not fuel quality. A secondary filter is still on my to do list =). One thing with me is im a compulsive researcher (comes with the profession) so I usually have read the posts before I post... :geek:

When he says "with a pump", he would be referring to an additional electric fuel pump as he may have come across frozen fuel codes in the past using a secondary filter (On other makes of vehicles) that has too much (friction) restriction or cant flow enough for normally open denso system.
(The supply pump runs flat out and the SCV bypasses the fuel on low duty.)

I have never had this issue with a Triton but have with Toyota's.

2um secondary filtration (After the factory filter and before the CR fuel pump) with a good water separator is a must for CRD's 8-)

(edited for better clarity on 2um filtration)

I would be checking things like carbon build up and fuel filter first. That said, 12-13 doesn't seem overly high considering the size tyre you are running. If its an auto it will also suck more juice.
