Towbar question

Postby leighm on Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:57 am

Hey guys,

Just purchased a new GL-R triton, few weeks ago.

Love it, goes great.

Its got a rear step and towbar, but the towbar is set really low.

I notice on the GLX ones without the step they seem to have a different towbar thats sits higher.

Is this the case? if so thinking of seeing if the dealer will swap the step and towbar for a glx one. As it is at the moment it will be a pain in the arse offroad.

If they wont do you guys recommend an after market one?

Also going to put a 2" lift in and some 265/75 muddies. From what I can tell from the forum the rim offset should be about +15 or +18 so they dont rub.

Cheers leigh.

I picked up one from the wreckers. next to new with all wiring etc. $200. only problem was it needed to be rewired for whatever reason the wiring between a gl-r and a glx-r is not the same.
I know a lot about cars, man. I can look at any car's headlights and tell you exactly which way it's coming.

Hi Leigh, welcome mate! Yes the towbar height can be an issue when offroad... I have a standard GLX towbar on mine and it still gets in the way when 4wding. Im considering modifying it to gain a better departure angel. Like Biggibbo bluntly said... Topic has been done to death. Search button is your friend. ;)

Can anyone help me out. I am after the measurement of the non-step tow-bar, from the end of the chassis, to the furthest rear of the tow bar setup......if that makes sense.

Cheers.
Sam.
