that was one of my thoughts too snowy
it only occurs during lower revs
Also thought the 2 holes drilled in the snorkel for the radio aerial may be causing it too.

I may need someone who knows about airflow and fluid dymamics to chime in.

This car is like a bad drug habit. It is taking all my money and time, my family are concerned, but new mods just feel sooooooo good.

Just out of interest have you felt how hot the metal intake is getting with it being that close to the turbo it might be heating the air pre turbo. Might pay to insulate it if possible. You sure went to alot of effort

The intake is 316Stainless and im hoping it will reflect the heat. im going to see how it performs.
I may need to put some exhaust wrap on it later if need be.

Only problem is I have the reverberation that many snorkels have. It seems to be from 1400-1900rpm.

I took snorkel off today and retightened all nuts.
I also ran a bead of silicon under the snorkel.

The reverberation is is gone. Happy days.

the pipe going passed the turbo is cool to touch after a long drive.dunno why but shiny metal reflects heat.

All good :D :D :D :D :D

Dose any one know why brazil get a factory snorkel and we have to retro fit. It would seem that most Aussies would opt for a snorkel.

It looks pretty but it's not worth the headache - a few guys have tried but their solution for the piping under the bonnet isn't real satisfactory. Last time I looked it was being advertised as a leech snorkel for triton on ebay

The Leech version goes further forward on the quarter panel, probably fits into the air box better but doesn't look a good. Also this snorkel has Ralliart on the side. I can't find them anywhere even Thailand ebay.

The label doesn't mean it's genuine.

Major PITA. I had to cut and move the spigot on the snorkel to get around the ABS and then make a pipe maze to get to sir box.
I currently have stoock air intake as im going to move airbox forward and bring pipework into rear of box.
I didnt pay much for mine and wouldnt fo it again
It is a cool looking snorkel though!!

I have often wondered whether you could modify the pipework for the tjm snorkel to join it up with these. It would still be a headache but it would be a neater headache if it could be achieved.

It is doable. Just have to match up the spigot to the inner guard pipe
Getting the pipe without the snorkel would be the hardest bit.
Easier to get the airtec in the first place!!

The bottom part of that snorkel is quite similar to the one I have on the Pajero.

In that case it runs along inside the guard and comes into the engine bay in the same spot as the Safari one, behind the right hand headlight.

May be easier to do something like that than come in the back?

TJM on the triton is the hardest install around apparently but it basically goes in through the inside of the guard and emerges as you described. But if yours was cheaper than the TJM (likely) then it might be time to take a few measurements. I wonder if Geek ever threw out those 2 he bought?

Ag9111 and Geek looked at doing this quite a few years ago (when Geeks was still a stocker :o ) taking measurements etc from my Airtec snorkel and I think from memory it was determined it was not worth the effort, there was just far too much modifying to be done
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything important, it's too late to stop reading it.

Gents, I've split off the snorkel discussion from the flares thread since it is something that seems to be of interest and may go somewhere.

Carry on....

Sheesh, nearly 300 posts on it and we never got any closer to an easily used product. It's a shame. I reckon there's a genuine market there for someone to tap. You would think one of the discount ebay snorkel sellers would give it a go but I suppose their MO is more to copy an existing product than it is to improve on something themselves. Possibly the poaching of a ralliart design creates an additional issue but people could procure their own ralliart badging if it came down to that.
