Johnno's MQ GLS Build-up

Postby Johnno323 on Sun Jul 19, 2015 7:05 pm

Soooo...... not too many MQ build-ups so here is mine.

Bite the bullet and bought a new MQ GLS Manual. Was also looking a a XLS ranger or new ST Navara, but everybody i know owns a ranger and well 52k for a new ST navara that doesnt have bluetooth audio streaming?! (no thanks)

Upgrading from a 2009 MN GLX-R its certainly nicer to drive, time will tell if it's as capable offroad or reliable as my MN (quietly confident though).

Well done with the purchase, and getting it out there, using it as you should. I am sure we all on here will want to hear the Feedback.

I love pics of a new ute hitting the tracks.
Look forward to your opinion on the MQ and also the future build.

good to see you hitting the trails, be interested in your thoughts on economy/ drivability of the new MQ with the bigger than stock tyres

The tyres are 265/75/r16 Duratracs on 16x8 rims.... although i have noticed a bit scrubbing. Driveability is very good (compared to my MN) but didn't really drive it with stock tyres enough for a good comparison. Around town the fuel economy is around mid 8's but time still waiting for the engine to run in (currently <500km). No tangible loss in power either.

I'm having a bit of an argument with Mitsubishi atm due to the EGR needing replacing on the MN due to carbon build-up - apparently they don't share the view that when they replaced my inlet manifold (due to carbon build-up) they should have also replaced the EGR which would have most definitely had carbon build-up (they advised me they are unrelated engine components??).

That being said I am working a mate who makes EGR blanks (Bushman Bits - Ebay) to get one drawn up the MQ to avoid this issue altogether.

Looks the goods mate had one priced up today and took it for a test drive, very nice and handles well standard,i also took a new Navara for a spin the twin turbo wasn't really noticeable and I thing the triton accelerated better,Pitty the rear locker is only on the top model and not even an option in the others and still nothing available from ARB but am told it will be available soon,im going the Green colour I think :?

from what I seen when I crawled all over the MQ at the launch, ARB have the centers to fit (lockers front and rear), will just need someone to front up for them to see what components/ internals they need to source to "make a kit"

I have no doubt they have all the bits

have you checked your airbox after that first video/ mud hole

the intake is no longer at the front (a good thing for that sort of adventure) but it is up in the front wheel arch so could have been "pressurized", interested to find out as that is a new design for MMA

Yeah airbox all clear, much better location then the MN but not sure if pressurized though.

By pressurized I meant the wave of water forced in behind the plastic covers and into the intake

only one way to know and that was someone to take the plunge- glad that the new location works...... :D

They do look nice sitting on the road. Something about that clam shell shape followed through the bodywork.

Where are the tyres scrubbing? I assume it would be on the front mudflaps? What offset are the rims? The MQ needs at least 32" tyres to toughen it up a bit and I hope it's just the offset that is the issue.

Anyone running 32" tyres on the standard rims without scrubbing?

Had a look at a dealer demo with aftermarket steelies and 265/70/17 iirc, srubbed on the inside of the front wheelarch, different offset would maybe make it scrub on the rear of the front wheelarch. The dealer seemed to think a front bar replacement would also fix the issue. Would be interested to see how they go on std rims...
